I just purchased my first A Body Mopar... It's a yellow '67 Dart 170, 2 door sedan (post car which had a 225-6 column shift) and bench seat... It now has, as I was told a '71 Barracuda 340, 4 speed, on the floor, and an 8-3/4 rear... And the motor was rebuilt with 9.5:1 compression... The weather is nice on days when I'm at work... With the weather being so wet and cold here in NJ, I haven't been able to get the car jacked up and get under to look at the motor casting nos... And looking at the drivers side of the front of the block, I can't quite make out the numbers... I can clearly read on the heads above it LPS and 7278 on the flat boss... I will eventually take the valve covers off to read the casting nos and get under the car as soon as the weather gets reasonable... Any suggestions to finding out more of what's under the hood?.. Thanks for any info...

Well, I got under the car today.. The block is casting 2780930-340-6 dated 5-31-72... Low compression 8.5:1 or high of 10.2:1 ?.. Most likely a forged crank... The heads are maybe J 3418915 (can't confirm) with LPS 7278 punched in above block ID (which I can't make out with the pitting)... The valve IN size, 1.88 or 2.02, maybe 1.88 if made in 5-72?.. The 4 speed 833 was cast in 7-23-76... The rear pumpkin is casting 1820657 and is 1958-64 non posi, gears unknown... Any suggestions as to valves or compression?..

Nice looking Dart, got any more pics?
Sorry, I can´t help you with the id of your engine.
Ohh btw, welcome to FABO.

You would have to know what pistons are in there and what head gaskets were used to know the compression. If you do a compression test that will give you an idea.

Where are you in central nj?
Bill any word on your motor ?
