I know this question has been asked a thousand times, but I ran into a snag on my second swap...

The mounts I have are for a '68 318 B-body, and it is going into a '71 E-body. The PASSENGER side holes are effectively backwards. The block has two holes on the front set and a single upper rear, but the mount has one upper hole on the front and two on the rear. See pic below. The ones on my '68 Charger swap (forgot the application of the mount donor) had 4 holes on the passenger side so I could use all three on the block.

that is not the correct mount for that side of the engine

I agree, something is not right, but here is where I get confused.

  • LA blocks (pre-magnum) passenger side had 4 bolt holes where there are now 3, right?
  • This has the right bolt pattern for a drivers side, but wrong width, and was sold to me as a take-off set.
  • My '68's mount on that side is identical, but has 4 holes. (this set also had heat shields, whatever it came off)
  • The pic below is on eBay as a set of 70/71 318 mounts, and IDENTICAL to what I have right now, both sides.

Looks like the right mount just isn't drilled for that year engine...id mark and drill it.easy peasy.

the mounts for 318 is different than a 360 or 340 both the 360 and 340 have the same mounts they have a narrower mount on one side of the engine that wont work with a 318

both of these are for the same side of the engine drivers side

Dan,

I know the magnums all use the narrower top ears and require about .350 spacer on the single offset ear to use the 318 bracket. If it was a BB mount, it would be offset inward and have a steel tube welded. Just odd. It looks like an A-body mount, but the mount offset is backwards. The guy who sold them to me on ForBbodiesonly said they were off a '69 318. I assumed a B-body for obvious reasons and the fact that the drivers side is right for a B-body.I'll just drill the hole I need once it is sitting in the K-frame.

that's cool they are both definitely drivers side mounts and for what vehicle I don't know

Those are a set of b body mounts u have and look like the ones on my 73 challenger except my pass.side has the hole drilled for the front bottom boss.

Exactly. The '74 Challenger set that I put in my '68 Charger had heat shields and had the 4 holes where this one has 3. Your '73 Challenger has the 4th hole. If you look at post # 3, that set is ID'd as 70/71 E-body 318, and is identical, including missing the front lower hole, to the '69 B-body set I am trying to use now, as seen in post #1.

Did we discover a type/application of mount that doesn't work? My mounts are from a '69 318 B-body and look the same as the 70/71 E-body, and both don't have the 4th hole.

I've ran into that b4...its something to do with 340/360 boss placement I think...I just look for another passenger side mount or drill the one I have.
