I want to paint my steering box this weekend but I am concerned about the heat coming from the headers since they run so close. Should I go with a high temp engine paint or should I be safe and go for the ceramic header paint? I'm just going to pick something up at the auto parts store so would prefer if you can buy it there.

I don't think you would have any troubles with using just regular old spray paint......but if you want to play it safe you could use some engine paint but I dont thing header paint is necessary.

if you can have hoses and plastic spark plug wire clips and things of that nature in close proximity to headers without melting that I do not see any problem with paint being on a your steer box thats a few inchs away

i sprayed the base coat DP 40 then can sprayed the box and k frame

I primed, base cleared my engine bay and then went over my K frame in rattle can.

but my Gear box is a close ratio aluminum box so I cleaned it up and left it in its raw finish.

I have pictures in my restoration thread (link in signature below)
