What are the torque specs on the clutch to flywheel bolts. Also how can I tell what transmission I have its a slant 6 out of a 78 d100 truck with a shifter on the column. I thought it was a a833 but it looks a lot different.

Should I use lock tight on the bolts. Any idea what the tranny could be. Thanks

If it has a tin top cover it's an A390.
If it has a removable cast side cover where the shift arms are it's an A230.

How hard would it be to put a floor shifter on a a390. One again thanks for the advice guys

It shouldn't be too bad as long as the transmission has the mounting pad for the shifter on the tailshaft housing. Either find a stocker or put an indy 3 speed shifter on it.

If there's no mounting pad to bolt the shifter to the transmission there were "universal" type shifters available back in the day but these were a "one size fits all" type deal so you might have to fab some stuff to get one of those to work.

haha reminds me of the shifter I had on my '68 dart back in the day (4 speed)

I used to love that thing. you pull the rings up and push forward that was 1st.
then no rings needed after that pull back = 2nd push forward again = 3rd
pull back again = 4th

the side lever was for reverse

Very cool. Never seen one

IIRC, That's a Hurst Vertigate shifter, a customer got a form of carpel/tunnel (sp),, from pulling up on those toggles for 1 st. gear... lol..

I liked it for strip application,,

I had a hurst VG shifter too on my 68 cuda. Man those were fun- bang, bang. Wish I could find another one- I'd use it! Anyone???
