Ok guys, I need some input. My son graduated High School this past Friday and he recieved $2,013.00 from his grandma and has asked me to spend it all on parts for his '64 Cuda. (pics under my profile)
If it was your cashola what would you spend it on?
So far I'm doing front and rear door panels, already have the carpet kit.
I want to do a poly front end kit for sure.
But what would you buy?
Would love to hear from you guys.

I would do carpet, new original style seat covers, door panels, then maybe headers/true dual exhaust, and some bigger tires on some 14 X 5.5 rims.....and maybe a fresh windshield unless yours is great already. I can't stand sand-pitted windshields.

I dunno if that equals $2013.00, but....anyway.....that's my list.
 
Suspension and brakes FIRST (yeah, don't tell my dad I said this, we had a little disagreement over this very subject in 1977, which he has reminded of a few times over the years...).

Interior second as that's where you have to "live". Then the exterior.

edit: HEI conversion module for daily driver.

If I was you I would make him decide with you. It's his car and his money and he should know how to spend his money on his car lol!

His future is way more important than his car. When he is earning 2k a week then he can do whatever he wants with his car. You will be right there with him to show him how. The education will last forever. The car is just a car.
 
How about whatever you buy, have him work beside you on it, that way he learns. That's wayy more valuable than a part.

Ear mark enough for a full tank of gas, and school supplies.
 
I wouldn't even let him drive that car as it is pictured. It still has a single resevoir master cylinder and I can see the rust on the lines clearly in the picture. If that line (which is kinda out of the elements) is rusted then how badly rusted are the undercar lines. You lose one line and you lose ALL of your brakes and possible you life. A disc brake upgrade is a very good idea, but there is a reason the government mandated dual resevoir brakes and didn't technically mandate disc brake(they did mandate maximum stopping distances in 76).

I also agree that he should work alongside while the work is being performed so that he better understands and appreciates old car ownership.
 
Rear springs , wider Tires and wheels but keep the wheel covers if you could. 273 HP valve covers. A Mopar un-silenced air cleaner. longer heater hoses and a radiator cap . That's my list and I don't know the csr
 
I would do a rubber bushing front end rebuild, cop wheels with tires that will fit, bolt pattern swap with disc brakes, get steering column tightend up and right, new heater core if the old one looks bad, seatbelts and front drivers seat cover.

Why rubber when poly isn't much more $ and lasts so much longer?
 
I also vote for upgrading the single pot master cylinder....I have that on my own priority list as an important to do!
 
LBP brakes, and wheels/tires... it would totally change the look of that car.

Tell him congrats on the full-ride scholarship.

The money was a gift implied to be for education. I would feel guilty using it for anything else.
 
Thanks for all the replies, yes the money was "blow" money. He chose to put it into his car. Its not his daily driver as I wont let him, he has his moms old mitsubishi for that (32mpg) Yes he has a "full ride scholarship for wrestling" Although the books and stuff are still gonna need to put in the back :)
One of the reason I chose this car is I thought it would be a great car for him to learn how to work on it and he has been right by my side or should I say with me sitting in a chair drinking a beer while we/he works on the car.
I agree with everyone on the brakes, suspension. that is top on the list.
We are trying to keep the car as original as possible and he likes the stock hubcaps, go figure..
Thanks for everyones input on this car, hopefully when he has his own son, his too will appreciate classic cars the way we do.
 
1st my brothers full of crap . Dont put coil overs on that car. Thay can|will rip the cross member out of the car . 2 BBP disk brake set up better stoping power and you can find parts at any parts store . New leafs with the bbp .
