Whats the first year of the 360?

-
71 was the first official year. There were some 70 coded blocks and I have heard of some 69 coded blocks, but never seen one. Though with Chrysler it would not surprise me.

360's started being topped off with 915 heads, same as was used on 1970 340-6 pack engines. But the 6 pack heads had 2.02 intakes and offset intake pushrod holes. They went to 587 heads around '73 on 340's and 360's.

myron, for what purpose would they have used the 6 pak heads on a 360, and in what vehicle did they install them in? never heard of this before, thanks, walt

AARCuda and TA Challengers got the 340-6 packs....1970 year model only

why...probably cause the 6 pak motors were mid year additons...mopar was switching from X heads to J heads from 70 to 71....the 71s would get the J heads...so maybe the X heads were not avialble....

that is my guess....

They were new 360 heads that they finish machined for 2.02" valves and the offset pushrod hole location. I guess it was convenient to do since they were being cast for the upcoming '71 model year 360. The 340 6 pack heads only came on 1970 Challenger T/A's and Plymouth AAR 'Cudas.

My first 68 Cuda received a 360 swap courtesy of me. Doner was a '70 Fury and the heads were casting 3418915, also known as J heads. If I recall correctly, they had 1.98" intakes and were also used in the later 340's. Earlier 340's had the X heads with 2.02" intakes.

You hit the wrong button. ;) Actually, 1.88" for all original 360's and later 340's.
