Am preparing to detail my wheel covers. My '68 cuda has the optional wheel covers where the extended length lug nuts poke through it. There are five inset area's in the cover that are painted and I don't remember what color. If my memory serves me, these area's are painted a dark textured grey similar to to my 383-S hood inserts that have a light and dark textured paint. Can anyone confirm? Where can this textured paint be purchased? Who does this kind of detail work?

I believe the paint is light argent. Eastwood carries it, and others. That one you are picturing is pretty badly damaged -- I might try to start with a better example before going to the trouble of painting. The ones at the link Dicer posted are better.

I believe the paint is light argent.

Is the argent finish on OE parts (Aluminum, Stainless) a painted on finish or was it a anodized, sandblasted finish?

On the wheel covers it is just painted. On some of the body trim (67 center tail panel, for instance) there is an anodized texture with paint over it. I have the same wheel covers and there is no trace of the argent left -- someone polished it completely away, or used a solvent. IME carb cleaner will remove any remnants, creating a clean surface for repainting.

Appreciate all the input. The example in picture is just a spare I took a photo of, is not a candidate for resto.

My understanding on these years cars, that Mopar used Argent silver in various places like grills. It was paint, lays flat. What I think I remember here, is that on my hood inserts and on these wheel covers Mopar used a ruff, almost sandpaper-like, textured paint in a light silver and a darker silver(grey). My memory is not improving with age, so I thought I should bring it up on a post. Appreciate your input.
