When to Use O-Ring on P/S Pressure Hose?

This power steering pump was attached to the '65 Formula S when I purchased it and I have no idea if it is original to the vehicle or if it is a replacement from another year/model.

Anyone expert enough to classify this hose fitting and tell us if it seals with/without an o-ring? Thank you.

That is a inverted flare and not designed for a o ring. Just like a brake line or steel fuel line.
 
Yup. No o-ring involved.
 
Looks like your setup has been cobbled together. The return hose connection on the control valve looks to be the stock large diameter, but gets reduced for the later pump reservoir nipple. The stock pump pulley is a lot smaller in diameter too. The pump was probably replaced at one time with a later one.
