I pulled a 68 - 904 trans out and put 73 trans in. Old trans had a single wire for a park / netrual switch - new trans has three prongs / 2 wires coming off the trans. I have the wire - I just do not know what to hook it to???

Where do the wires go?

Thanks, Sam

Center wire is your neutral switch. Outer terminals on newer cars are the backup light switch.

Thanks, for the help - I would do the switch change - but the old transmission have left the building (switch on it) - gone like elvis -

If your car is column shift the reverse lamp switch is on the top side of the column down neer the brake pedal. If your car is console shift the same factory connector will be found in the same location but have another wire harness plugged into it extending those wires to the floor shifter. Regardless, extend and route those 2 wires through a rubber plug in the firewall and tape in with the neutral safety signal wire to the trans. Now that switch will operate the reverse lamps.

I have 1973 Dodge Dart sport. My wires were ripped off my 904 some how. If I am reading this thread correctly both the black wires run the backlights. The reason I am asking is when I look up info on it some say one is a 12v, middle is neutral switch and one is back-ups. So I have a black wire, black with white stripe and brown. I know the brown is neutral switch. The wiring diagram doesn't help me.

One of the two is positive 12 volts from a fuse when the switch is on. I'm pretty sure that wire has or had a white tracer on it. The other of those 2 goes to the reverse lamp fixtures. Since that wire is routed through the rear lamp harness inside the car, both of these wires do pass through the firewall bulkhead connection. That's where the wiring diagrams are supposed to help. I don't know what else I can tell you
