I have been informed that the 360 oil pan I bought on Ebay is strictly for a 360 out of a car.I got my 360 out of a van,so I need a center sump pan to fit the engine so it will fit in a 72 Dart. Where might a fellow get one? Thanks Dale :glasses6:

I don't quite understand, You said you bought a pan on ebay for a car, Is it center sump? If not here is a link to mancini racing for the pan, pickup, and dipstick. Probably a little more than e-bay though. I just bolted mine on last weekend and fit was pretty good. Does not come with pan gaskets though.

The blocks are the same for the car and truck 360's as for as the pan rails are concerned. In other words you can put a car pan on a truck/van 360 and a truck/van pan on a car 360.

As said ' a 360 pan from a car will fit a 360 truck block". - or at least mine did going into a A-body 68 dart. A pan from a truck will not fit into your car.

a car pan is the same thing as a truck/van pan but where a truck/van pan is rear sump a car pan is center sump but that makes absolutly no diffrence in the motors i have a 360 out of a truck in my scamp i just ordered a center sump pan from mopar performance "its great comes with the correct dipstick, oil pickup and pan" and thew that wedge right in there

The pan I bought is a center sump.It is simply to small to go over the rear main.I think they must have packaged it incorrectly, put a 318/340 pan in the box instead of a 360 pan. I still have the pan which came on the engine ,it is rear sump.I have a phone # to call and give them some measurements.I will do that tomorrow. If they fail to correct the problem I will go with one of the kits you guys spoke of .I guess buyer beware. :glasses6:

I hate to break the news to ya, but you have an 273 or 318 or a 340. NOT A 360.

It sure says 360 on the side of the block. It was the original engine in the van and the documentation with the van said it was a 5.9.From what others have said the 360 has the larger rear main,as I have. That would make a 273/318/340 the smaller main, thereby causing the current situation I have before me.The small rear of the new pan will not fit over the larger main of the 360 that I have. :glasses6:

Is the rear main on a 360 larger or smaller than a 273/318/340? I seem to getting conflicting information.

The rear main cap where the oil pan seals is smaller on the 360 than the other LA-series engines.

Thanks for the info. The engine does have he smaller rear main.THe oil pan was defective .Buyer beware!!! :glasses6:

I have found E-bay and many discount places aren't a great place to buy oil pans. Most I've seen even when their correct for the engine don't fit good and end up leaking or are made of thinner metal than the stock ones and warp easily. They may be cheaper but you get what you pay for. I won't use anything except factory or a big name brand anymore after a couple of bad experiences with cheap ones.

The mains on a 360 are larger than the 273, 318 and 340 but the pan end seal surface of the rear main cap is smaller.

Thanks for all the feedback.I will purchase an oil pan from mopar performace.I read in one of the mopar LA books exactly what you guys said about the mains and the rear main. thanks again. Dale
