I have the choice between two different 727's. I will be buying one for my 383 Scamp project. Both are $150 obo and both owners say they were running when pulled. Ironically, both are from guys who demo derbied but both said neither was used. They were just pulled from the cars that were used (said they use 318 or 360 for derbies).
1. 1968 727 out of an Imperial
2. 1975 727 out of a 440 Newport.

Any benefit one has over the other? I don't care about the numbers/dates. Also, they both have fluid, and say it's clean, and both were stored in doors. Anything I should check for? Of course, I would be having either one rebuilt and checked out, but I don't want to start with a burned up trans or cracked case.

Please give your feedback, thanks fellas!

............Doug is right, your scamp will need a 70 up nss....i change the linkage on the valve body many times to fit the year of the vehical.....kim......

If the guy lets you pull of the pan check if the inside of the pan is black. It would mean it has burnt clutches. and it would smell bad to. but if you plan on building it don't matter.

The 75 has a couple advantages. They have a 1" wide front clutch carrier bushing vs. 1/2" wide on a pre 70 unit. I like the stability of the wider bushing. It will also have a part throttle kickdown VB which may or may not be anything you care about.

OOPS... Just noticed your last post so I guess my post is a moot point. You might want to consider swapping the front clutch carrier and reaction shaft/pump for a 71 and up unit to gain the wider front bushing.
