Which oil pans work?

-
No, get a regular car center sump 360 pan.

Just did a search in magnum swaps on oil pans, nothing came up. Will an oil pan from a 273 work on a 5.9 magnum?

Tom

No, the 360 has a unique raduis around the rear main bearing cap that takes a different gasket and oil pan than the 273/318/340.

You have to find a 360 pan.

aaadave, you gave me the right part #, I just wanted to know if I could use what I have before spending anymore money.

Thanks,
Tom

I got mine from Jegs. Center sump for a 360 LA. Part # 555-50272.

magnumswap.com covers this. They even claim that you can use the magnum gasket instead of the older ones on the older pans, with some mods.

Personally I am going with the KEVCO since I am spending the money. Dont forget that you gotta pay for another pickup along with the stocker pan. In my case, by the time I figured in the pickup, I figured I could just save up a little more and get the KEVCO. Good bang for your buck.

So i read a few things about this on the various sites and ran into some confusing data. But I got it resolved.

From what I gathered the best solution is to use a center hump early style 360 car pan. The great thing is we can use a one piece magnum gasket. Unlike the magnumswap site recommendation of cutting the one-piece gasket, which is doable. I just liked the idea of using a full one piece gasket. The Felpro part has a nice two-sided front end that acts like a slash guard. It captures the oil pan on either side.
To make it work I welded small metal tabs filling the gaps in the 360 pan. I ground down the welds and then used a small dab of silicone at the corners to make up for any imperfections in my welding. All done and perfect. It seals so much better then a multi-piece gasket.
Any 5.2/5.9 magnum can use an early 360 pan. Ma switched to make the pans the same on all the magnum V8's.
