I'm posting this in this forum and the General Discussion forum, hoping to find who wrote this:
I just have a few questions because what I'm building is similar.
Thanks guys

"I just built a 360 with magnum heads. It's has zero deck KB107 flat top pistons, and 0.039 head gasket which results in 10.6:1 compression. I am running a Comp Cam XE268 cam, with a Professional Products CrossWind dual plane manifold (copy of an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap). I have 1 5/8 headers with a 2.5" dual system with an x-pipe and Flowmaster 50 series mufflers. I am currently running a Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary carb. The engine is in a 68 Barracuda with an A833OD 4spd and 3.55 geared sure-grip rear end. I now have a little over 1500 miles on the car since installing this engine. Below are my impressions;

* The engine is very strong. It has instant throttle response off idle. Nailing the throttle at any rpm above 1000 to 3000 in first gear and the back tires go up in smoke. A hard shift to second and the back end steps out with another cloud of smoke. The engine does not lack for low rpm punch

* The engine continues to pull hard right up to 5000 rpm but starts to roll over at 5500. I believe a bigger carb will help but both the cam and intake are geared to make power from 1500-6000 rpm. I have been looking to borrow something in the 700 to 750 range to try but I don't want to loose the crisp response on the bottom end where I drive the car.

* The Comp XE268 cam is a hydraulic but it is noisier than is normal from a hydraulic cam. The brain trust here as well as Comp feels that it's a nature of the very aggressive lobe profiles. Most people ask if it's a solid cam.

* I have no detonation problems with the 10.6:1 compression as a matter of fact it runs well on 89 octane. Gas mileage was not a consideration when I built the end but with $3 gas I have been checking and its getting about 15 mpg around town. The 600 cfm carb is jetted a little rich so I hope to find the time this weekend to do some jetting and maybe squeak a little more out of it.

A 340 will not have the low end grunt the 360 has but you can expect pretty much the same characteristics from a similar 340 build."

I don't know who wrote it, but he could use more carb. Possibly a Holley 3310 750 cfm. that way you still get the throttle response and also get the top end. His compression sounds about right. My pistons are .020 in the hole with a .026 head gasket and my final comprssion is 10.56 to 1. I had the same cam until I wiped a lobe. My combo dyno'd 390 HP and 410 lbs of torque.

DGC333 wrote it in another thread.

I have a similar build, 360 +.030 and Magnum heads retrofitted, but I have a 9.6 CR, MPP 340 cam, 3.73 S.G. 8.75 rear and a 727 with a Transgo TF2 kit; I'm planning a Holley 670 Street Avenger Carb, the TTI headers with the X-pipe and Flowmasters. So I'm hoping this will be a good engine for my first engine build, didn't want something radical. Mostly this will be an occasional driver, and an occasional goosing, no strip. I thought about the 770 S.A. Holley but with gas at the $3/gal and about to sky rocket with the new middle east turbulence, maybe I better stay with the 670.

Actually I was interested in what 50 Series F.M. he uses. I'm looking for the F.M. performance and sound; mostly for SLIGHTLY more volume and aggression than my stock 02 Dodge Ram.

Looks like a entry by Mopar, but I don't think it's exactly him or his build. 50/50 on it.

That was my posting and the 360 is in my 68 Barracuda. I have also replaced the carb with a Road Demon 725 which I have just about got dialed in.

FWIW, I got a chance to make some 1/4 mile runs since that posting with the 600cfm carb. I have some real bad traction and wheel hop problems lauching the car (2.3 to 2.4 60' times) and the shifter was balky which caused me to make some slow and deliberate shifts. Even so I was able to get a best of 14.29 at 103MPH.

Using one of the horsepower calculators that use 1/4 trap speed to estimate horsepower it comes out to 360 HP at the flywheel.

I have a new shifter, bigger carb, sub-frame connectors and will be replacing the rear springs soon. Once I have it all in place I will make some more runs. Based on the trap speeds I was getting I should be able to get the car into the low 13's.

BTW, The mufflers are 50 series delta flows.

I would call it aggressive. Crusing it's not loud enough to make people look up or notice but WOT they will. Inside the car while cruising you can carry on a conversation comfortably and there is no annoying droning while cruising.

Nice, it looks like you invested a little in the /6. Just curious, how fast did you ever get it to go with that motor?

Never ran it with the \6 but my butt meter says it would have been a low 16 sec car based on other vehicles I had at the time that were faster and slower and I had numbers for them.

One of these days I get some new pictures of the car posted. This spring I ordered the 69 upper body stripe in gloss black and had the 360 call out cut into it. Absolutely everyone likes it on the car that has seen it.
