Why so critical of "universal" flex radiator hoses?

Those hoses with the ribs/ridges (like Lay's potato chips) can be curved to fit and look strong/mean compared to the smooth, lacking character pre-formed hoses. But from what I hear/read they are considered a no-no, wonder why?
 
They develop leaks easier and don't route as neatly...
 
When i see that type of hose, I think if they couldn't be bothered spending the time looking for the proper hose, what else did they do to the car that was not proper, short cuts, etc.
 
They also load the radiator neck and can cause it to crack. Due to them being so stiff.
 
They look half ***..sort of like someone who paints their bumpers cause' they're too cheap to have them re-chromed..
 
Well I've been known to use them, so there. I do know "all the above" is true. Sometimes, there ISN'T a "proper" hose. Not all of us have supaw dupaw tig fab skills!!

They're designed to look perfectly at home on any car being driven to it's final resting place in the front yard of a mobile home, and sculpted to stand out as a purchase made by someone lacking enough self respect or taste to do the job right.
They're handy for installing aftermarket radiators because you're going to need to install double the cooling capacity in your $200 part to compensate for the lack of flow in your kinked up, half degraded rubber, Tijuana $10 part.

You would be better off to hire a Mexican to sit under the hood and transfer coolant from water pump to radiator and back with a five gallon bucket.

If it wasn't good enough for Ma Mopar, don't bother asking why it isn't good enough for you, unless you just really enjoy asking people for tows in the middle of the night.

Well, when I went to Pep Boys and asked for the proper hoses, they sold me a voluptuous looking formed bottom hose and a corrugated upper hose (not my fault and this was for what a consider a common, everyday '72 318 Satellite.). I guess the proper term for this type of hose is "flexible".

Flex radiator hose is the automotive version of going to WalMart in pajamas and fuzzy slippers.

Well to get the flow back, you could upsize the "flexible hose" about .5 to .7 inch. Then you might have proper flow in the relatively turbulence-free center of the hose. Then you could get a muffler shop to bend you up a proper hose router, and slide that fat boy in there. And finally, you could rework the spigots, to accept that monster.
Of course you would have to remember to never let a Mopar guy see what you did.
Alternatively, you could wire the secondaries shut and reset the rev-limiter to about 2800, and then to never drive it south of the 49/50th parallel, in the summer time.

Reminds me of a story I never shared before. The previous owner of one of my Mopar project cars asked me if it was OK to drive down to the DMV with me as he was dressed at that moment (pajamas). I said it was all the same to me, so off we went, me fully dressed and this other guy in pajamas. Never understood the why of it.

I'm still trying to get a lower radiator hose to fit correctly, I've tried a few. I haven't went the route of a flexible hose yet (Car is months away from being started up) but if I don't figure it out before then... sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Just like the shortened 8.8 under the rear of my car...
