What is widest front wheel that will fit with a AlterKation?

On his site it says a 17x8 with 5.72BS will work.

Then I also would like to know what tire size you have on this wheel.

I'm considering 17's or 18's.

It's not a 17 or 18 inch wheel. But here is what I am running for reference.

I am running 15 x8 (had the wheels before the Alterkation). With 215/60 tires. Run a 1/4 inch spacer to keep the wheel away from the tie rod end.

I do sometimes rub the lower rear lip of the wheel well when making sharp turns. I run fiberglass fenders, I question how well their shape matches an OEM fender.

How much more room did you have to play with.

I'm waiting for the guys running 9's to chime in.

Wracks71 is running 18x9's with 275/35/18's on the front of his Duster with his RMS Alterkation. He said they're from American Muscle, which lists the specs on their FR500 replica's as 18x9's with a +30mm offset, which is a 6.2" backspace. He also said he's running wilwoods on his RMS Alterkation, although I don't know which ones and different brake packages can change the track width a little bit.

His specs are listed at this Hot rod mag article, scroll most of the way down the page. It doesn't list his backspacing though. http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/1312-2013-muscle-car-of-the-year/

RMS instructions says with 17" that they will clear rod end on the steering. But on 15's ,3.25 is the max BS. I tried 4.5 BS on 15's but they hit. Looks like 3.5 BS is max on mine with Wilwood brakes.

I have wilwood brakes as well.

I was looking at a 6.7" backspace on an 18x9. The dusters have that flare which the 67-69 darts do not have.

The flare doesn't matter. You'd think it would, but it really doesn't. Having run both the Duster and Dart fenders on my Duster (now a Demon tribute) I can say that the tire clearance difference between the two is pretty minimal. The Duster fenders have more restriction at the rear corner of the wheel opening, but the lower front corner and the fender lip clearance is very similar to the Dart fenders. I'm running the exact same 275/35/18's with the exact same rims and brake set up as I did when I had Duster fenders, they were as maxed out for clearance as the Dart fenders.

On that note, if you work from 73+ track width specs my 18x9's have an effective offset of 27mm (6.1" backspace). They just barely touch the frame at full lock. So, unless the RMS Alterkation with wilwoods is a 1/2" wider on the track width compared to a 73+ set up, you won't be able to run a 6.7" backspace.

But I could run spacers to correct that. If I don't order enough backspace I'm screwed.

Very true. The problem is the spacers available. With a plain spacer you're normally limited to about 10mm (.4"). Then you can step up to the spacer/adapter type spacers that bolt to the existing studs and have their own studs, but they start at about 20mm thick and are more common in 1" thicknesses or greater. So, if you get into a situation where you need between a 1/2" and 3/4" spacer you've got problems. It's too thick to run a plain spacer, and too thin for a spacer with embedded studs.

I know the RMS is different and it depends a lot on your brake set up, but that 6.7" backspace could put you in a bad spot.

They also make a 18x9 and an 18x9.5 with 6.1 and 6.2" backspacing

I would think that the 6.2" backspacing would be a better bet, but again it depends on what brakes you're running and what offset they have. Not all the wilwood kits are the same for track width.

Talking to RMS wouldn't be a bad idea. And it would be worth PM'ing wracks71 just to confirm his specs and see if he's running any spacers etc.
