Hi I have a mostly stock 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger and I am wanting to put some new wheels and tires on it. I would like to put 15x7 wheels on but am trying to decide between a 205/65r15 and a 215/60r15 tire. So I am wondering which one would fit and look better.

Thanks

The 215/60 is about right, a 215/65 would be even better. You can also easily fit 225/60 all around. One thing to be aware of is that you need to make sure that the wheels you get have 4.25" to 4.50" backspacing with the 7" wheels.

I put 255/60-15's on 15x7's with a 4.25" backspace on my Swinger. No rubbing and no trimming but I have pretty stiff rear springs.

I have 205/60r15 up front in a 15x7 with 4in BS kinda wish I went with more bs but it'll work. And a 225/70r15 in the rear on the same wheel.

Close to the Bassett's, they are Aero racing wheels. They were the only ones in stock when i bought them and really needed wheels and tires. They were about $225 shipped.

Thank you guys for the help! I really appreciate it! The wheels I'm looking at are U.S. Mags U107 with a 3.75" back spacing. What tire would that work best on?

No idea. But you will be very limited. You'll be lucky to get a 205 tire on it without rubbing on the fender.

By the way, the link takes me to an 18x8 wheel with 4.5" backspacing.

Ok wrong link I guess. Would a 15x8 all around with a 4.50" back spacing work better?

I have 215/65-15's all the way around on mine mounted on 15x7's with 4 1/8" backspace. They fill the wheelwells up nicely. The back of my car has also been lowered a little from this picture.

Ok. Nice car by the way! Do you think my 15x7 wheels with a 3.75" back spacing would fit with either a 215/60r15 or a 205/65r15 tire?

You'll be really close to the fender with the 205/60 and will hit with a 215/60. I would stay will at least a 4in BS on a 7in wheel. Be better with a 4.25 or 4.5 inch wheel honestly. The 225/60 all the way around on a 15x7 with a 4.25 BS looks really good.

I would do that but the wheel only comes in 3.75" BS.

The answer is, find another wheel. One of the big advantages of having a 4.50" bolt pattern is that there are hundreds of different wheels available. 15x7 with 4.00"-4.50" backspacing is not hard to find.

Just to clarify, do you have 5 bolt 4" bolt circle or 5 bolt 4 1/2" bolt circle? I see the #u107 mags you mentioned above don't come in small bolt pattern. Just making sure.

Yeah that's not an ideal backspace for a 7" wheel at all, your best bet would be to pick something with at least a 4" backspace. And ideally more like 4.25 or 4.5".

With a 15x7 and 3.75" of backspace you could run up to a 205/65/15, but that would be the absolute max width tire you could run and it would be tight, some cars might need some minor adjustments to the lower fender braces. That's assuming you've got BBP brakes. Stock SBP brakes would give you a little more room, but I'm not sure it would be enough to run a 215.

Go with the advice for a different wheel if you can. Under 4" backspace on a 7" wheel will almost certainly put you at risk of a rub on the front.

Thanks I think I'll go with these. Do you think they would look good on my car? (Picture is on the first post)

They'll look good! Of course I'm not a fan of the wheels that are on there now at all, they look like they should be on an early 90's Ford Ranger :p. And I may be biased. These are legend 5's on my Challenger, although these are 17x9's.

And with a 15x7" and 4.25" of backspace you should be able to run 225/60/15's if you want.

Yeah I was thinking about running a 225/60r15 with it. And I'm not really a fan of the wheels that are on it now either. By the way, I really like your Challenger. Looks good!
