Hey guys,

just in time for the holidays I am scaring myself with the scamp....finished pulling the motor and all, and like i was told by a member in another thread, i kept towels and such around the fenders and cowl of the car (its in primer right now) so as not to get it covered in grease and dirt...well the engine bay and all is sanded and the car is ready for final stages of bodywork/ paint, but i got grease on er:angry7:....I am just wondering, is my paintjob going to be ruined now that there is grease on the primer? i used some of my wax and grease remover to clean it with some paper towels (forgot rags:angry7:) but in some spots it still looks kinda stained and as I was wiping my towels were turning black... The car still has more sanding to go through, so should i be worried, or is it nothing to worry about since there is wax and grease remover to help me? let me know guys because i need the peace of mind for the holidays....

Have a good Christmas!

i,d personally sand the greasy spots back down and reprime. last thing you want is the sealer not to adhere and the paint peel or bubble.

I would go over with grease remover then sand it down then go over it with grease remover again then go over it with thinner and then prime it again.

Jim is right if you sand too soon you will force that grease deep into the primer.A good grease remover should do the trick. If all else fails use a paint stripper on thoue dark areas ,and redo its a ***** but you as u know grease and paint dont mix.

hey guys,

im assuming from consensus here that grease is pretty bad....i might have overexagerated a bit about the amount....Its only small areas not even the size of a penny, but in quite a few areas (or so it looks)...I wiped down with the grease remover a couple of times today...when the body guys go to work on the car they will be sanding it again...is it okay if the car isnt sanded for atleast a couple of weeks from today? will sanding it be enough to not have to worry about it anymore? i appreciate the advice guys...thanks again

Grease is bad. But if the "body guys" know what they are doing it will be ok. using wax & grease remover will help. put wax & grease remover on it and let it soak in for about 30 seconds or so before you wipe it off. You really don't want to sand it before you wax and grease remove it, that will just grind it in more. if that's what's been done already then your best bet would be to clean it, sand it, and then reprime it. If you haven't sanded it then just clean (wax & grease) it tell the "body guys" about it. They can always use fisheye eliminator for that too.

hey alleyoop,

the car has not been sanded yet since the grease. I have just attempted as many times as possible to clean it off, and im sure a few more times wouldnt hurt. Ill make sure i tell the guys who are going to work on it about it and let them deal with it accordingly. sounds like i should be fine if i take the proper steps to correct it. thanks for the info everybody.

Have a good christmas!
Matthew
