So I am considering buying a buddies 1971 Demon. It’s on original triple f7 H code car with the original white side and rear stripe. It has the original 340 motor, but has a 727 instead of the a904.
Body is clean, interior is beat up, defiantly needs a repaint. Would I kill the value and history of the car to change the color? I was thinking Green Go or Sublime green. Not many H code cars that I see for sale anymore but I just never liked f7.

    i dont think so
specially not if your not going with a rattle can repaint and take plenty of picture of the process to prove your painting metal and not bondo

The 340 was never fitted with a 904. ALL 340 cars with automatics had the 727.

Really I, wrongly, assumed since the fender tag had d34 and said light duty automatic transmission that was the a904

It's your car do it the way you want. Once you repaint it's no longer original anyway. jmho

True but I don’t want to destroy any value the car has since it’s still mostly original. I value your guys opinions and advice thank you

          D34 means A727 torqueflite automatic

I think the value is in the eye of the one that will buy it. I think you have a good example of a 71 demon with the info you gave. If you are looking for max value, you need to restore it back to original but still you will need to have that one person looking for your car. I would make your car your own, enjoy it and when it comes time and your changes are tasteful, it will bring the max value it can. Just my 2 cents. Happy Moparing :)

That was my plan tasteful changes that appear to be period correct. I think if I was switching from hemi orange to f7 then that would be a terrible move.....but triple f7 just isn’t real sharp looking in my opinion.

I'm with you. You need to make it you own and enjoy it. I had a 70 340 duster back in the day. I'm now going to recreate it from a green drag car shell to my liking, not what I had but what I want. I hope you all the best and have fun with it. Every here is wonderful help.

Yes Agree here, Make it tastefully your's.

Think it can look better than the factory color if you do it right. Here is an example of a friend of mine Jim's 74 rust free body Dart Swinger, before and after pictures. I think the after picture is just awesome. He is a professional body man and painter and he was saying that he was going to put a Killer Paint Job on that Dart. Well I guess he did . . .

                After:

                Jim74Dart.jpg

I don't think there is even any comparison, I like the custom color choice here way better than the factory green. Fortunately he had a nice Tan factory original interior color that worked well with his color change.

The new color even has just a tad of Pearl in it, and the windows were lightly tinted.

                Tastefully Done . . .

My Demon was F7, someone changed it to limelight / sub lime before I bought it. Limelight is not a 71 color but green go is. When I re do it I'll paint it a 71 color, just to be more correct, but the limelight has kinda grew on me. I have a different situation though because mine was only a 6 cyl. Car. If you are planning on keeping it id go with a color I liked, but if you plan on a full blown resto and selling it I'd keep it original.

the question really comes down to, if you are building it/restoring it for YOU or someone else? ie: flipping it at some point.
If your heart is not into the car and you truly dont see yourself keeping it long term, than value in being the most "original" it could be restored back to, would trump desire to make it your own.
personally, Id make it what color ya want, as long as its done correctly.

If it's original paint in good condition, I wouldn't do it.

I'd especially not do it if it's an F6 interior.

I'd keep the F7 all-over. When was the last time you saw one like that? To me it is much more unique than the over-used High-Impact colors.

I saw a Dark Green 70 Demon this Winter at the Florida mopar show in Melbourne. 340, 4spd, buckets, Black interior, all original except fresh original color paint. The thing was about as perfect as perfect can get.

The guy that had it there just bought it 1 year ago and I know he had to shell out some good money for it.

                        Beautiful Car . . .

So the paint is ok at best, it had two quarter sized holes in the rear quarters and someone patched them and primed them.
The interior code is f4f6 so from what I gather luxury interior with split bench in green.

IMO Sassy Grass, Limelight, etc looks horrible with an F6 green interior.

Better plan on recovering/dyeing to black or black and white.

It has a white side and rear stripe too. Has some odd options like dual mirrors, LH racing remote, roof drip molding, grill moldings, dual exhaust, chrome tips, electronic ignition (N23 code) and R21 am/fm radio

Interior is beat and the split bench and rear seats was redone in black already.

The "odd" one is the fm radio.

The others are fairly standard for a 340 car.
