The Mopar windage tray kit I got for my small block came with hardened washers and the bolts that came with it are the same length as the stock bolts. So, why does it come with hardened washers? What are they used for? They can only be used on the main bearing cap bolts, not the screws to hold the tray on.

I saw somewhere to put LockTite on the screws for the tray. Which LockTite, and do you put it on the threads or the screw head/tray junction only?

i dont remember my bolt kit coming with the washers, but if they did i wouldent use them.

the locktite I used was the bue type, that will hold, but you can take it apart later.
the locktite goes on the clean threads of the screws going into the main bolt.

It seems to me the washers are to be used if you plan to use the tray with a 318 as the main caps are a bit shorter than the 340 / 360 ones. That's just my opinion though, I can't see what other use they'd have.

RIGHT ON MAN!

Better be some thick washers, the difference in main cap height from 318 to 340/360 is @ 5/16".
Even if the washers are 5/16" thick, I feel that the 318 bolts wouldn't have the engagement in the threads to support the high torque load of the main cap bolts.

I'm betting MP switched vendors on this setup and they added the washers for aiding in torquing, as most A.M. companies do with high grade, high torque bolts.

MP is continuing to sag further and further down in quality and sensibility, I see.

Mark.
