I have a 1973 Duster. When I got the car the wipers didn't work. The lot that I bought it from changed the motor and said that they worked. I took their word that they worked and didn't find out until later that the wipers didn't work. Any way, my guy said the switch was bad so I found a used one. He pulled the switch out this afternoon and it wasn't the switch I have. It's a switch with variable speed where as the one I bought is for a 2 speed motor. The motor is a 2 speed motor. The switch in the car is for a 1970 and '71. Does anyone have any logical idea why I would have an old style switch in my car?

See if you can find a part number on the replacement motor.

no offense, but your car sounds like a heinz 57 or johnny cash car. lots of different year parts to get it sold.

There isn't a part number on this side of the motor. It looks like the 2 speed that's supposed to be in it.

I didn't see a part number.

Because, does the new 2-speed switch work?

I basically hate Mopar wipers. My advice is to get ahold of a service manual--you can download them, free, at MyMopar.com, and read up in section 8. Various years have various text on troubleshooting, and some years have a chart showing motor connections and tests, etc.

There used to be a great websited on them, but "I guess" owner ? died ? and the remnants became lazy or dishonest.

I have one. I'll look at it a little more closely. Thank you.

I tried to imply, and poorly, that if your manual does not have a good explanation, try a different year manual, later one, etc. The text changed some over the years

Buy yourself a cheap volt meter and use this as an easy opportunity to learn how to ohm out a switch. It'll help with troubleshooting most problems on these old cars. Simple and easy to do with the switch out of the car.

You may have to put up a wanted ad on the forum for your switch. If I remember right, those aren't reproduced.

A guess at why - 2 speed wiper motors are easy to find new for $50-75 and 3 speed/variable speed motors cost 4 to 5 hundred rebuilt, if you can find one. Somebody getting a car operational probably switched to a 2 speed motor and found a 2 speed switch from whatever they could find.

Part#'s are stamped on the switches.
2spd motor needs to match 2spd switch, same goes for vs switch and motor.
