xpipe location

I put mine just behind the end of the trans tailshaft. It was as close as I
could make it. And it will work out well if I have to pull the trans.
Good luck, Green Duster

To gain the best results, the X pipe should be as close to the headers as practical. The further you get from the engine, the less effect your exhaust system has on performance. At least to a point.

If you have std duals now, you should spray the headpipes (the ones running from the header collectors to the mufflers..) with spray paint..std silver or white..not high temp. Then, drive the car a little. Where the paint is burnt off, is where the X should be placed. (this is also true for H pipe placement) If that is impossible, use the point furthest forward, that clears the trans and driveshaft.

Instead of spray paint, you can do it this way, when the exhaust is cold, take a wax pencil (the yellow ones that you mark parts with) and draw a line on the exhaust pipes from the header flange back. Take the car for a good rip or two down the road, dont drive for too long, maybe 5 mins or so. Then look at where the wax pencil mark stopped melting and start the x pipe there. The spray paint way will work too, but its a little messier than a wax pencil.

those it sound reasonable to put an X pipe at the point where my non aluminized steel 3" pipes has stopped turning blue ? or is it best to do one of those test that is mentioned above? my headpipes are blue alitle further back than the transmision crossmember....

Do one of the tests, its not like either way will take too long to do, and its better to be sure about it than guess.

ok will try that then... i may try both ways to see if they will tell me the same spot;)

If you need to install a driveshaft loop (racing?) make sure you can install one with the x-pipe. I made the mistake of trying to add one later and I couldn't get around the x-pipe. I probably have to cut and modify the loop to fit or get another style. Just FYI.

yeah thats how hindsight goes. I'll probably need to put a loop in, I plan on tying my frame together so I think I can move the loop down the line a ways. I got everything together today and really spent a lot of time cutting and fitting and welding(I hate welding undercar) and cussing and bleeding. Only a few issues: I have to clearance the reverse rod on the one x-over pipe and some carb or timing fine tuningbut me and the girl lais some suregrip right out my driveway to get er started off right
