Just had an engine rebuilt and was told I had to add a Zinc additive to the oil (permanently). This is due to the flat tappett design (so they say).

This being my first slant I need to know if this is myth or fact.

Appreciate the input.

If
You are running hi spring psi you need a good oil like VR1, or royal purple race type oil. I would break it in with VR1 and a zinc additive then after the break in you should be fine with just a good race oil.

I use VR1 in my 170 cu in slant.it costs 5 bucks more per oil change so what ! You need zink and with the VR1 you also get anti foaming additives .

We have a search button and a zillion threads on this already. I know. Let the hatin on me begin.

If you have a flat tappet cam, you need zinc. Just the way it is.

Brad Penn makes a good oil that still has the right zinc %, you can get it at Summit.
