[IMPORTANT] A word about Scammers

Thanks for the advice Joey and others. I had no idea anyone could just make a profile here to scam folks out of money and never ship. I'll keep that in mind. I paid a "Well known member" with a Western Union wire transfer today because his "rating" made me confident. I paid the WU fee. I did that before I read this entire thread. Thanks for the rating tool. Was it added after this thread started years ago? I've casually looked at swap meets and wrecking yards for 12 years for Mopar parts with little success. Within 24 hours of "rejoining" FABO I have parts on the way to me that I've needed a long time. I want you to know "Uncle Tony Garage" is the reason I reconnected. He spoke highly of this group. I don't know his profile name here. I hope I find more parts and hopefully, Folks will accept me as a "newbie" and take a wire transfer from me to them.

Tony and Kathy are the best. Welcome aboard.

Just a follow up to this post. I blame myself for not paying attention and being more vigilant in my cautiousness, but a couple of months ago I posted in the parts wanted section that I was looking for a steering wheel for a 66 Barracuda. A member of FABO (ALFMopar - no longer a member) sent me a reply saying that his friend may have one and sent me his email address ([email protected]). A few exchanged emails later, with photos of said steering wheel, and we agreed on a price. I offered to Paypal him the money but instead he insisted on using Zelle, which is a bank transfer system. So, like an idiot, I transferred the entire amount to him without verifying anything with him. I didn't get his address. I didn't get him to send a photo ID. Nothing. I just wanted to put this out there to help others not make the same mistake I did. Always be cautious and ensure you're dealing with someone that you've verified.

There are people out there like that, sorry to say.

Never let your guard down. There are strangers on here i trust 100%. All but three people on this forum are strangers, who i know and have met.
Now, there are people with high ratings, gold status and lots of comments. I feel i can trust every single one of them. And i hope they feel the same about me. Do your research, ask around. Google the names.

Never let your guard down. ......... Google the names.

@Chris Biggs , really sorry that you were taken advantage of. That just sucks.

@Tooljunkie .. I would add... "Google the item" Using Google Lens or other image searches as well to reveal if the item is someone else's, listed in multiple locations under multiple names.... or had been sold elsewhere. I've also seen "mirrored" images that raise hackles.

You have to set it up to receive funds. Once they are posted on PP then you can move them to a bank account. It all has to be set up by you, then verified by you.

It's not too hard to do, I just did it a while back. I would suggest a separate account to deal with Paypal with.
I agree. Paypal has controls that allow you to set the controls for your payments, both sending and receiving. Use the 2 step verification set up before you send any money. That said, with the correct precautions, I've bought parts from the prairies of Saskatchewan, to Florida. It seems to me that the "old guys" on this site are golden. Be careful, and use a trust worthy money transfer service to cvover your butt. Paul.

I could list the members on this site I've had trust with they're advice, and the members I've dealt with, but that would take me a week. Use common sense, PM, and run it by ToolManMike or the other mods. I'm not kissing any man's ***, but this site is the most respected of all I belong. Of course, I don't own a B or E body.

a friend had a guy send him a lead on some parts..sadly he didn't pay close attention to the person recommending this guy and when he want back to look ..the guy had deleted the lead from the forum.. [willy] was the name of the guy... the contact email was.. [[email protected]] he was the guy who contacted him but said he had to use
his other email address [[email protected]] for paypal .. just be careful if you see any of these emails
replying to your wanted ads

Hi, I've literally just joined this group. My name is Chris and I'm across the pond in England.
I got scammed on a 71 Swinger that is still advertised on a site through someone using the business of Triple S autos in New York, I lost £8600. The banks and the international fraud squad came up with nothing after about 6 weeks. Gutted to say the least.
Anyhow, I'm looking for a 70 - 72 Swiger with a 318 power steering and air-con, i don't want a show car, just a running driving complete car as close to standard as possible. I would appreciate any opinions on what i would get for around $10k U.S.

Thank you - Chris.

Sorry to hear, Chris.

Sorry to hear, Chris.
It's taken me a while and a few sales of other things to get my finances back up to be able to try again. Looking for A bodies over here in the U.K. is very tough, I realise I have shipping costs to add to my budget, but hopefully I'll find something this year.

Did this place happen to be in Rochester?
It did, it was a brown metallic 71 Swinger 2 dr slant. The car is still on a site called something like cars4u. It was the most convincing scam, I've never been caught by anyone in my life. They even called me personally, faked a signed contract, sent fake shipping info, fake dates etc.

Welcome aboard Chris. Sorry to read of BS.
These guys?
Triple S Auto Sales - Google Search

Yeah, the alleged owner of the Dart was a 'Brandon Bishop', the guy who would call me from "Triple S" was a 'Michael Andersson' - hope this doesn't offend anyone, but he sounded like Mr Sulu from the original Star Treck series. I lost nearly $12000
I have a good friend who drag races here in England who visits the States regularly - he offered to "pay Triple S a visit" but I persuaded him not to as it may be scammers using that address to fool people.
Oh well, life lesson learned. Hopefully I'll actually get my dream American car to add to my collection of 60's and 70's British cars.

I am an avid hunter and knowing Paypal and Ebay are both anti-gun REFUSE to use them. I clearly state in my ads I won't accept Paypal. I also mention I will accept your personal check AND I don't play games holding your item "till the check clears" as long as you're an established member here I ship the day after receiving payment. I've never been burned , I don't sell junk and I don't misrepresent my items for sale.
