1973 383 duster headers install

-
here are pics, horrible pics but pics haha - the passenger side has more pounding on the bottom of them from the steering hitting them in the previous car they were in, so I didn't include that, just the pounding I did -

um yea that looks like a lot more than just a couple of dings.:banghead: wow sorry to see what you had to do to get them to fit. damn i didn't have to dent one tune on my TTI headers to get them to fit in my 73 dart. but i did have to grind down a rib some on my flaming river steering box and remove the pit man arm grease Zerk and that was it, but found out i might of not had to do that after i found out somebody didn't install the idler arm right.but keep the pics coming cant wait to see your post of when you get it running.

I too am getting TTi headers, so these will be up for sale soon for someone that wants to try to run them..

Cool it Dr. Charles!

My post was not in response to yours. I was typing and I didn't see it until I was
done and clicked "post reply". Then it was there above mine.

Oh..sorry. Thanks for the clarification, OldMan :eek:ops:

Zac71, those headers look like someone ran them over with a dump truck!! My 78030's just took a few small dimples to clear in my '72 Dart. In fact they are the very same set seen in the pics over on the BBD Tech Pages (I bought them from Darrin when he moved up to a bigger/better/$'er set).

I did use an AR motor plate, but it doesn't look like either mount would be in the way...

Why not? Even a cursory search on the subject of big-block A-body headers shows that:

the Hedmans are one-fifth of the price of the "ones that fit";
even the expensive headers sometimes don't fit without hammer adjustments!

Of course, if YOU'RE buying, I'm sure we would all be happy to accept an $800 set of TTI's instead :)

Or Schumacher's. Starting at 525. Will fit with no dinging. Or pro-parts if you don't care about the 2 small holes.

Just saying if you have to destroy a set of headers to get them in I don't see the point of doing it at all. Performance and looks suffer. The one guy has tubes 1/2 or more closed in.

IMO save up until you can get a set that works.

some likem some dont

fenderwell headers cure all of that..............

And open up many others. Examples, being able to turn your car. Another being front tire choices. Chopping the wheel wells. Ground clearance.

A decent middle of the road though is the proparts. They fit extremely well and only put 3 tubes through the well. One on the pass side and 2 on the drivers side.

Will not cut my car up for fenderwell headers.. again I'm not going to use the Hedman's, I'm getting used TTi's for $400 local..

Damn! Those shiny ones look wild! I have always run Hooker fenderwells. And one thing I love is I have never burnt a plug wire. And I hate burnt wire$.

yes that was on my 65 cuda...gone now... those were custom built... they were beautiful... wish i could find a set like those for my dart... they were built so the tires didnt rub and the holes to cut to run them were very small holes... if i could go back and get any of the car i ever sold it would be that 65.
