Looking for some help from someone that owns an ‘08-10 Charger/Challenger/300/Magnum and an OBD2 scanner. I would really like files from an SRT but would take anything right now. Looking for config files from the ABS module and the BCM module.

If you have a scanner already, the only other thing required is a copy of AlfaOBD. There is a free version so it wouldn’t cost any money and the free version can’t make changes if that is a concern.

Anyone capable and willing to lend me a hand?

If I understand things correctly, the BCM comes preprogrammed for every mopar build that year, and alphaOBD just let's you switch things on or off ?

So I would expect the files you need to be present...unless you somehow deleted them

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I don’t own one of the cars in question, or I would just go read it myself. :)

I went so far as to see if I can find one locally for sale but there isn’t anything with in 4 hours so far. And I have asked on the late model forums for help as well, but so far just crickets.

And the file isn’t present or missing, AlfaOBD does a read of the config settings and compiles a text file of how they are set. And then the full version of AlfaOBD can indeed set some things and turn stuff on or off. I have reads from my 2015 R/T and used AlfaOBD to turn on the full STP suite after swapping in a 8.4 screen, but that car had a different generation of ABS and doesn’t help.

My reason for the request is because I’ve gotten fixated on a “what-if” idea of retrofitting ABS. I was planning to use the LX/LC ABS module to feed the PCM a native speed signal on my G3 swap so the OEM cruise control could be made to function. Then I tripped over the idea that people are retrofitting ABS in cars using the MK60 E46 BMW system and discovered that the late model Mopars are using the same ABS module manufacturer, but a different model (MK25e). My thought was, maybe the config reads would give me some clues as to whether a retrofit would even work. And if I could get a read from an SRT, maybe I could update the pedestrian ABS module I have to be able to add the 3 mode ABS they came with.

And before you ask, no I don’t think the ABS from a 4200# Challenger will be as good as a system from a 3200# M3. But right now it’s just an idea.

Gotcha...sorta

Wish I could help, but I just got a '15 charger

(It did replace an 08 charger, but that car is long gone)

I have a 2010 Challenger R/T and AlfaOBD. I think the reason no one will share their config files is because they are specific to EACH vehicle. Using different files is asking for problems unless you inspect/change EACH line item comparing it to yours. I recently upgraded the BCM in my Gen 4 2500 Diesel and it took me weeks to review everything and make all the changes. I basically made two side by side speadsheets in EXCEL.

I'm not planning on building up a BCM or ABS using someone else's files. I simply want to look at what settings are available.

As an example, here is what I have from the ABS in my old R/T:

Note that there is a line "PCM Brake Switch: Released". This makes me think that the PCM is telling the ABS module that the brake pedal isn't being pushed and leads me to believe that as long as the PCM is hooked up so it knows that I wouldn't have to worry about how the ABS module knows it.

But this is from a 2105 Challenger with the next generation of ABS module. I just want to know what settings are available in the 2008-10 modules to see if I can work anything out. And the only reason I want the BCM read is because often times the BCM is the programming gateway for the other modules so I am curious to see what settings are there to see if it would influence how the ABS module is setup. As an example, the 2010 SRT8 cars had a 3 mode ESP. I guess some of the R/T's could have it too, but I think it was standard on the SRT8 cars. I am curious if there is a setting for the 3 mode ESP in the BCM, because it could be that by setting it to Yes and re-configuring the ABS, it can be turned on. But I am just guessing because I don't have anything at all to look at.

And if people are worried about their VIN, just delete the line and save the file.

@DA4AD it sounds like you have exactly what I need. I'm not going to do anything nefarious with it, nor do I have a car I am going to mess up using your info. So, would you be willing to do a read from the ABS and BCM and send the text files to me?

I did learn that the +14 and down cars don’t appear to have a BCM, looks like they used a TIPM instead. The wiring diagram I have has a heading of “Body Control Module” but labels the module as the TIPM in the actual diagram. Not sure if the TIPM has settings or not, or if it is just a smart PDC.

I have purchased an ABS module out of an ‘09 SRT so I should be able to get some info on my own now once it shows up and I dig out my OBD2 connector. And I plan to try and find a TIPM as well.

Really not sure what the big deal was, but it is what it is.

Just to clarify, a new BCM does not come preprogrammed. If you have to have it replaced they either read the settings and re-apply those settings to the new one or they build a configuration off the VIN and build sheet and apply those. The BCM might auto set some things depending on info from other modules present on the networks, but it wouldn’t work to just plug in a new one and fire up the car.

AlfaOBD can pretty much do the same thing, minus building a completely new configuration.

Well, been an adventure so far and far from over.

I was finally able to get connected to a JY TIPM I bought as well as a PCM, but no luck so far with the ABS. I suspect that because I am not hooking the 2 large power wires up, the circuit board isn't actually powered. There is a key-on wire that I hoped also powered the circuit board but guessing not.

I am also still failing to get the SCCM to work so I can sniff the CC codes from. So lot's of road blocks still.

I also finally got my Arduino board coded well enough to see individual messages on the CAN C network, now to figure out how to copy and paste them into an Excel spreadsheet so I can sort them.

If anyone care, here is the read from the TIPM I was ask for help with.

Got the ABS read! Looks like the circuit board is powered through the main power wires and the key-on wire is only a signal wire. Hooked power to to the smaller of the 2 and was able to connect. But first I pulled the motor and valve assembly so it didn't pull too much power for my benchtop power supply, or try and cycle the pump and spray brake fluid everywhere.

One of the reasons I was trying to get a read was to try and figure out if the 3-mode ABS can be turned on for a "garden variety" model. There are a couple of settings that might be related, but I couldn't find anything in AlfaOBD to set them. So I am speculating that the ABS module needs to be factory programmed for the 3-mode ABS.

Now if I could just get the SCCM to wake up and talk on the network. Then I could start sniffing the CC messages and maybe be done with this part of the project.

Here is the info from the read. Wish we could attach files here like the late model forums allow.

I find it interesting that the tire circumference and tone wheel info (in Vehicle Config 3) is set here. Not surprised but interesting. I was hoping it was part of the ABS module and not in the TIPM.

It's also interesting that the front and rear tone ring settings aren't the same. And the tire circumference is about 46/48th's of what a 225/60R18 tire circumference should be.

No settings that I see that would influence the availability of a 3-mode ESP either. And the ABS module P/N number applies to all trim levels so betting the 3-mode ESP option is coming from the cluster. This is based on the fact that the ESP off button is wired directly to the cluster (Cab Compartment Node/CCN in Dodge-speak), so it makes some sense that the cluster could broadcast a message for "kind of off" or "actually off" for a 3-mode ESP and it is last place I can think of that could have the option enabled.

Based on what I have read about the ABS manufacturer, I am guessing that the module has a pre-programmed tone ring count and as long as the number of teeth front and back is the same the ABS functions fine. But if you had a situation where the number of teeth wasn't the same, it would probably require the TIPM to be part of the network to allow for adjusting it. But maybe the ABS module picks up the changes and just keeps the settings until the TIPM tells it something changes. In that case, maybe the TIPM could just be something to keep in the tool box and plug in if something needed to be changed or if the ABS module was replaced or something. All just speculation right now.

Could be important for me though as the hubs I might run have a 52 tooth tone ring and the 8.8 I expect to run has a 50 tooth count. Might not be enough to matter, but my guess is it would impact it and I either need to set it using the TIPM or get a custom tone ring for the 8.8 axles.
