I was wondering if anyone could help me with the correct layout and number options for a fender tag on my 71' Duster 340?

For help decoding your tag, go to the tech archives forumand look for the options code list ADAM posted. You should find most if no all of your codes there.

Your bottom row will have your engine and trans codes plus vin & assembly #s

Very Very helpful went through and filled it out to the best of my knowledge not trying to clone anything. I have soem paper work when bought new here in alberta so that helped. Just need someone to proof read so here it is in english first.

71' 340 Duster. Automatic with 3.23 gears and sure grip. Rallye wheels and all the 340 options of course. The car is B-5 blue with factory hood pins and drip rail moldings. Car has black 34- stripes. Inside the car It was factory bucket seats with column shift auto. It has rear defrost as well. The car was sold new at a canadian dealer so I know it would of had the hi-strength antifreeze and block heater. Car has only the single speaker am radio no rear seat arm rests either. No interior light packages either other than a dome lamp. 2 speed wipers and electric washer pump. Manual steering and brakes with discs upfront. Hope I did miss anything so heres the tag. Not sure how many codes per line though. And if you could show me the engine transcode as it appears?

I've been looking at pics of fender tags and know mines still amiss with a few numbers... does anyone have a car clsoe to mine that can fill in a few nblanks like interior colour etc? and knows the correct codes for each line?

You'll need the build sheet to get that type detail. The fender tag has the option codes and exterior color info, but the buildsheet has the higher level build details it appears you're looking for.

Soem of the tags I've seen reference to colours though I'm sure, and date codes for production. I know mine was built late 70' as a 71' model. Cant remember the exact door stickers date. I copied down a factory tag to figure out the layout and it had some much different numbers -and more- then mine

Cory - I have a 71 duster 340 fender tag. As well I have a couple of 70 340 ones and a 73 340 tag. These might be useful to try and get yours close to correct

The exterior color is definetly shown on the tag. Mine is on the second row from the top, 1st series of codes in that line. Depending on your exterior color, it should be as well.

Thanks Rod, it be a def help. Theres a guy onlien who charges $195 bucks U,S to do them, but at one of the car shows in the states my uncle attends -cant rememember which one- Theres a guy who makes and sells them as "keychains" He said they are 100% looking and only 30 bucks. Trick is you gotta have it all laid out. And haveign no tag for my car It makes for a tough start. Not trying to clone some super rare Duster just give my car a tag with what I can tell 100% is true.

I like the $30 option. I am sure we can figure out the rest of the codes with some certainty. Do you have a build sheet for your car?

sadly no, but for soem strange reason I have original owners warrenty cards and such for the car. Strange the things people keep isn't it? BTW Rod I plan to yank that column in a few weeks and get a run up to Whitecourt soon....... bringing seats too

Fender tags will have very basic info.They are read from the bottom to top, left to right. 71 tags are different than other years as well.

RFC C
EB5 ???? ??? SPD ******(order number)
E55 D32 VS29 H1R ******(l6 of VIN)

???=what is your interior color
SPD=Scheduled production date
RFC=roof color

there are a lot of blanks that need to be filled in, most options do not show on the fender tag. another 71 duster tag should be used for reference and finally, I would be surprised if those $30 tags are the right size( I knew a guy that had one and they were about 2/3 the size of a real tag.)

Hmmm he said they looked fine but might have to ask him to check........ I have the door sticker with build date on it but dont remember it right now. Interior colour is a light blue. Was trying to cheap out on the $200 U.S touch

If your still loking on how to read the finder tag, There is a Decoder in the year one catalog.

cory - I did a pencil rubbing of my 70 340 duster, a 71 340 duster, and a 73 340 duster. Email me your mailing address and I will stick it in the snail mail. Somewhere I have some more fender tags, but I can't seem to find them.
