Is anyone running a GPS speedometer in there 1/4 mile car? Trying to avoid 135 mph....Any experience? I can put a collar with magnets on my Dana 60 yoke for a pick up if GPS doesn't respond quick enough.

So nobody uses a GPS speedometer on there race car? I guess it's kind of a useless gauge at the track. Tach is certainly more important along with oil pressure and water temp.

There is a speedometer app for a cell phone that is like a heads up display that can bee seen with the phone secured on the dash.

Also investigate (I don't know all the brands/ models) those "performance monitors" for lack of better, G-tech is just one, which can give you other valuable info for tuning etc

G-TechPro

I use little "thrift store" Garmin typically "nuvi" models for speedos and they would not be quick enough to respond.

I’m running Speedhut gauges on my Sweptline. The installation was straight forward with good instructions. The gps Speedo uses a bottle cap size mag mount pickup that I put on the dash under the windshield.

I use an app on my phone. Only thing is I have to delete the info cause my top speed shows up and it is consistently above the posted limit. Kim

i was looking at them last night! cool lil gizmo!! lil pricey, seen some cell phone apps for similar deal but ant researched them nuff to know if any good!

Thank you all. I have used my phone but never during a race. Not sure about accuracy. An Autometer set up with an 8 magnet pinion ring is about 400 bucks. I should probably just save my money for my impending 9.9 certification that I don't believe the car will pass. and use the money to fix it.

LOL.. I use the app on my phone as well. Of course I throw it on the passenger seat and really it's just kind of a joke because I drive whatever speed I feel like I should be driving.. (I've been driving a while).. but I love to come home and show my wife the top speed... She always says "HOLY CRAP!"...

I think it's mostly when I'm going to get on to the freeway and of course you have to get up to speed and of course I always seem to overshoot the mark LOL (by double at least...) By the time I actually get on to the freeway I'm usually on my breaks pretty hard LOL....

manual or auto? tach would be spot on in a 4sp. abs wheel on a drum and the associated hardware? a few modern rears have the reluctor pickup built into the differential now.

I got stopped by the po po. He has 2 questions. R u in a hurry? He says : do u know how fas u were going? I answer no and yes. I was gonna tell him that if I was in a hurry I’d be going a lot faster. It was after midnight and very light traffic, he says : slow down and have a good rest of ur trip. I say Thank u officer. Kim

same thing happened to me early on a saturday morning, 0730ish, NO TRAFFIC. police pulls me over an asks the same questions. I told him I just got this thing running after 5 years and had to take it out and see if it was OK. We popped the hood and ended up talking cars to him for about 10 minutes. He let me off with a warning.
