The “Tornado” swap, will it be as popular as the GenIII SWAP. Dodges new turbo inline six. I’m wandering on price, has to be less then the Hemi. All aluminum 400 hp. I wouldn’t mind 400hp with 40mpg. What do you /6 racers think about it.

Speaking of transmissions, will keep the same bell housing pattern the SBM and Hemi motors have?
If it does I would think there might be a chance of it making it to being a crate motor.

Dumbest idea ever but knowing the crowd on here i'm sure you will get plenty of " I would do it "

Its not my cup of tea either, like I said I like my V8s. But I wouldn’t say it’s the “dumbest idea.” For the guys that actually drive their cars daily, this might be an option for them in the coming years. I think whatever keeps the hobby alive and these old cars on the road is a good thing. But you’re entitled to your own opinion of course.

Zero chance it will have the same bolt pattern, and about zero chance of it ever being a crate motor. Chrysler could care less about hobbyists. That's part of the reason you see so many LS swaps, GM actually embraces the hobby.

The first Jeep "Tornado" was not such a great idea, hope that name is not an indicator............

Jeep Tornado engine - Wikipedia
Below is a 56, and the engine did not appear until later, but they WERE first marketed in the old style "Willys" pickup and wagon, predating the Wagoneer/ Gladiator series

Was looking at that diagram. Looks to be a mechanical nightmare.

It’s not your fathers Oldsmobile!! Kim
Nope. I can handle that wizardry crap. Worked as an electronic tech early, then a computer programmer, then a systems analyst. But I'd rather not deal with complication and I sure don't like finicky or trendy.

Living through the 2.6, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.7 eras I will wait and see...

I think the author was a little loose with the facts. The Pentastar v6 wasn't released until 2010, so it couldn't have replaced the slant 6 in 1987.

Just curious, in your opinion, are there any engines produced after 1971 or so that aren't?
Produced after 1971? So that would exclude the slant 6, the 318, the 340, and almost the 360......but with that said the only decent engine after 1971 was the 5.9 Cummins but wait, whoops, they didn't build that.......so I guess my answer would be no and 100% believe that pre-72 Mopars should NOT have any engine platform that wasn't available in the cars.

I should have said that better. I was asking about motors designed and produced after 1971 (just a random date I pulled out of the air). Wasn't even limiting it to Mopars. Just trying to gauge whether there was anything you like that was designed after Nixon was in office.

EDIT - I'm not asking about what you would swap into an old car. Motor swaps are not part of the question.

Toyota and Honda for daily type transportation........hands down the absolute best a person can get into for basic, stay out of your pocket daily wheels. For those that need a serious truck for pulling a trailer or whatnot then I would suggest the Dodge with the Cummins platform.

My personal viewpoint is this.....I don't want to spend a bunch on day to day transportation, to me they just serve a purpose and as such I don't want to be wallet raped with repairs due to inferior quality, I want to spend my money on my old Mopars of which I enjoy driving very much.

I can’t argue that statement. That’s why my old Mopar IS my day to day transport.
I don't live in a horrible part of the country but we do get snow and they do use salt here in Kansas City and so I no longer drive them year round for that reason......BUT years back I absolutely did although none of them were muscle cars they were 4 door 73 darts and rotted out 74 dusters.....stuff like that. They did make very good drivers though.

some people like doing engine swaps and such,...i believe its call hotrod'in!!! started with a bunch of teenagers back in the 30s aand 40s....
