Trying here and Mods if I'm in the wrong place please toss it to the correct forum.

New to me 64 Valiant. I do know that it was built for racing at one point in its life but probably hasn't seen a track in over a decade.

I'm perplexed by these yellow buttons on either side of the engine compartment. (zoom in on the photos they are near the hood hinge/ECU and coil) I initially thought they might be a kill switch of some sort but they don't do anything as far as I can tell. They are also not tall enough to be a detent for an alarm or something

Any thoughts from the racing community?

Thanks

Chris

well with that I dont see a reason to have it on the drivers side as well....

what happens when you push one?

Near as I can tell, not a damn thing happens. I've started chasing the wires but lose them in the harness and passing through the firewall.

use your multimeter and test continuity. It may branch off giving you a couple different 'beeps', but it will narrow it down. One of the gurus will read this soon and pipe up. Im still thinking they bump the starter. Have you tried it with the key 'on'? and out of gear if a manual...

It's an automatic. I'll spend some time chasing with a multimeter and see if I can trace it.

Yeah, wasn't sure what it would do (Wile-E-Coyote ejection seat or something) so I progressed through key positions and then idling.. Nadda.

Appreciate you putting some thought to it. There's also something that looks like a round, red light about 1" in diameter on the side of the dash, driver's side. Not sure if it's related.

A mystery.

if it runs its just a cool mystery. it possibly had an 8 in it at one point? line lock for the red light? good luck hunting, Im suprised you havent had more replies.....fun stuff.

Here's a thought. Try mashin um and see what happens.

How about some close up photos.

Zooming in only goes so far

Seems like a bump button under the hood just give a thief an edge. One jumper to the ignition, press the button and engine starts.

Hood safety switches, hood flies up it kills motor. That is why they are on both sides. Likely disconnected after track years.
