AlV 69 Dodge GTS project

Lot's going on... not so much work on the car though.

Waiting for a few small pieces to come in so we can give the 340 its first run.

Have to mount the headers, install the starter and sensors but mostly ready to go.

Won't be long now.

Thanks Martin :D
You know I will video and I sure am ready to hear some engine noise. No noise or smoke yet But I'm real close.

More pics from the guys. Mark and Tom say "nice parts" and I agree.

In the first picture we can see the driver's door skin is removed.

Then they stripped the trunk lid and hood.

I love when they send these pics.
Like right in the middle of a crappy meeting when "ding" you have a message. Two seconds later everyone wants to know why I'm smiling.
:-D

Nice work!

When I look outside I don't recognize my neighborhood.

It looks more like a location scene from the show "Yukon Men"! No, I'm serious. I've got so much snow that I don't no what to do with it. It's piled high and deep. Man I wish I was talking about cash instead. lol

The guys did a great job with the left side of the car. Both Qtr. and Door skins are in and the fenders are being repaired.

They hit the roof with the DA and have some minor straightening work to do up there. The area right above the rear view mirror there a but shaped dent. what the heck?

Also, since I want to go back to the vinyl top they've been working on the Dutchmen panel just behind the window. They have to straighten it out and clean up where the holes were filled in, then make new holes for the trim clips.

Right side is on deck.

Here are a few shots of the left side.

It's coming along nicely. :D

Looking Good "V"
Please let them take their time with the body work. It's worth the extra time and money. It's what is under the paint that makes the difference. Super Slick paint on a wash board will make you sea sick. Man your cars coming along great. Good Luck

when you say "mark and tom" are they by 95 and 295, cherry hill area?

Gotcha Martin... I'm not rushing them. lol
I don't want my car to be so friendly that it doesn't stop waving.

Never tell a body shop time is not important. Yes they need time but you don't want it pushed to the side where it sits forever either....

Great thread! Thanks for taking the time to share all the details. I am subscribed and am sure I will using some of this as future reference. Gonna be a helluva nice car and it's way cool your sons are getting involved too. They are learning how to do things the RIGHT way from a great teacher and will never forget it.

Agreed. In my experience setting reasonable milestones and targets seems to work best for all.

Thanks man! I appreciate the good feedback.
Its been fun working with them. I'm not pushing too hard because I want them to want it. It's not something I want them to feel lie they have to do, that said if they spend too much time on video games or the computer I make them get off and come out. :D

How did your Cuda's engine/front lights come out? You used Crackedback's set up (right)?
like the burnout pict :D

"Brakes" in The Action that has been keeping me away from my project - Kind of.

So I have a lot of balls up in the air, The Dart is still at the body shop getting beautified. This winter has been insane so the guys have been working hard to keep up.

Ball 1
I did have a small issue with my AMD order. it turned out that the supplier accidentally shipped two left door jambs... no problem I made a call and worked it out got the RH piece in and good to go.

BUT wait!, the AMD skins looked so good on the left quarter I thought - Hmmm, maybe I should consider the right side also.

I call up the supplier and ask for a RH Qtr. skin. "NO prob I'll ship'em both (skin and jamb) together is that cool?" Of Course that's cool :) [Five Minutes passes] "Hey, guess what?" What? "AMD is no longer making the Qtr.Skin..." WHAT! why? "Not selling not worth manufacturing.." Oh man that sucks, let me get back to you. Now I call AMD and it's true no more Qtr.Skins and no plans to fab any more. I ask what about a full Qtr. Those are on Back order and they target late April or June but not likely. Dang! Now I have to hunt down supplier stock.

We talked it over and it was borderline. Meaning that the right side looked better than the left but it still had a lot of filler and a cluster of dents just in front of the wheel. Now We dig deeper since we might have to save it.

Ball 2

The 340 is sitting on the "Run stand" ready to go. I was waiting for a couple of hoses and a sensor to come so I could wrap up the run prep [Done} Just needed to mount the a cheapo set of header and start the party. BUT the headers Ended up hitting the run stand. The angle of the header and the length of the drop made it unusable.

Big deal you might say... well not really but kind of, modifying the stand is out of the question so I pulled the HP manifolds I just finished and will use those instead. except they don't have the heatriser and I haven't plugged it yet because I am hopeful I will find one for a reasonable price :). In the mean time I am working through the exhaust solution in between other things. As much as I want to hear it run life interrupted.

Ball 3

This came out of the blue... I picked up a set of K-H brakes from a 68 Barracuda. I've been throwing around the idea of upgrading my drums to discs for a while. My main requirements were keep it period correct and hold on to the small bolt pattern. So, when had a chance to pick up a set with everything I needed l from a member, I pulled the trigger . I picked up the master cylinder, reman calipers and Rotors from rock auto, and the prop valve from inline tube.

This is what it looked like when I received it.

I started with the right side [clean up]

1978715_598333230249055_579238435_n_zpssf8nficq.jpg

Then the full POR-15 treatment. [Got some POR in the caliper threads on the spindle and had to chase them with a tap]

1922270_598659060216472_1728146381_n_zps7wxoguzs.jpg

Replaced the bearing races and reused the wheel studs

1797553_599633330119045_935705191_n_zpssiti6xio.jpg

installed the spindle gasket, and packed bearings, then loaded the hub with grease. Installed the bearing, seal and the calipers.

on to the next one as time permits.

btw, not having the Dart in the garage right now is really nice.. BUT.. I do miss seeing it when I come in.

Happily stumbling along.

Good work! Get as much stuff done as you can with the car at the bodyshop. Sooo much nicer to work in an uncramped garage space.

It's a stock build, reconditioned crank and rods, .40 over, stock 340 "X" heads, Comp XE268H cam, Performer RPM 340/360 (non-EGR), Holley Avenger 670 w/ e-choke carb, Stock HP manifolds, stock valve train, MSD Billet Distributor w/6 AL.

I'll post an update once I get it in and connect the exhaust.

I'm trying too. lol
It'll get real snug again when the car is back.

Nice work

Thank you.

I still have to sort out the left side. The parts are mostly cleaned I just need to treat with POR and assemble.

I hope to pull the K and suspension from the Dart soon and bring it home from the Body shop. This way I can rebuild it, swap to the discs and set the engine on it.

Sounds healthy.
