Chrysler owned Sunbeam for a while. You will find them with that symbol quite often. I ran into a Sunbeam Tiger that come with a 4.7 V8 this past summer. They are quite expensive and fairly rare.

67 Sunbeam Alpine. The earlier cars didn't have the pentastar. This one showed up on craigslist for $250. I couldn't pass it up. Only one problem.....the rear mounted distributor on a SBM won't clear the cowl/firewall, that's why mopar discontinued the Tiger....they didn't want a car on their lots with "powered by ford" badges on them. Soo...Lemmee seee........no motor or trans, I only have $250 in it, I have torches, sawzalls, and welders, there's a retired 86 F150 work truck with a 351w HO 4bbl sitting at my shop...HMMMM....little wheels are turning and smoke is coming out of my ears!

Damn all that. Put a 383 in it. Distributor problem solved.

I think a little sheetmetal work would be in order if it were mine and make that a nice little 340 car.

HMMMm......Food for thought.......They kept the Alpine's 51/49 front/rear weight ratio with the ford small block.....wonder what the 383 would do to that.....

Not sure the intake on a new hemi would clear. The back of the motor is under the cowl with the sbf. Shelby kept the weight bias by setting the motor back.

I have a 65 MK1 Tiger and I had a series 5 67 Alpine. Chrysler bought Rootes in late 66 and added the penastar in 67 on the Alpine and the very limited production MK2 Tigers. I've been playing with sunbeams my whole life. MK1 Tigers and Early Alpines also had round corner doors and hoods but we're too expensive to produce so they all went square corner in later models.

Chrysler **** canned Rootes because the 273 was too wide to fit between fender wells as well as firewall without bashing the **** out of it further. Kinda hard to sell a British car with a ford V8 at a Chrysler dealership.

Better find a international harvester because that's the rear end that they put in the Tigers to hold up to the torque. I scattered an Alpine rear end when I put a SVO Mustang turbo 4 banger in it. It was a blast until that sucker scattered everywhere! That's a steal for 250 bucks! You could sell the body parts( that aren't rotted) for some good coin. I've managed to stockpile trunk lids, hoods, doors and Hardtops over the years.

Kool...I might need some pics of your car for a reference! A kid I grew up with had a 66 alpine, and his older brother wiped out a tiger. The Salsbury rear (Dana 44) doesn't bother me, I'll most likely narrow a ford 8.8 (cheeeep!) If the car was nicer I would feel guilty about cutting it up. I'm just gonna build a cheap hot rod. :burnout:

Nothing with aluminum parts. Go for it.
