Slant Lockup Transmission

Lock-ups started around 1978 in Torqueflites. 2.74 low gear sets in 904s started around 1978-1980. But I don't know the specific application details.

can tell by the output shaft having a deep hole in it. I think they had a non splined end too.

So unless the trans is separated from the motor, there’s really no way to tell if it’s a lockup or not?

Lockups have a hole in the end of the input shaft if my memory still works if you can see a hole in the end of the input shaft it is usually a lock up.

There are stampings on the pan rail that can help tell what it is. But I'm not familiar with the codes.

I have a couple that have the model cast onto the Bellhousing , on the outside top; so installed, it would be impossible to see.
IMO tho, the A998/999 is slightly clunky looking, not having the smooth flowing together looks of the earlier 904s.
