So I have a 66 Barracuda, it has had a tough life,
It was imported here into Australia and I bought it 20 years ago.

Someone robbed most of the formula S gear off it and I have finally got it mostly all back, thanks mainly to Ebay and FABO sellers.

So it's 273 is long gone and it was fitted with (I was told) a 68 Barracuda 318.

My question is, can someone please tell me where they hid the engine number on those 318's ?
I will need that as part of my roadworthy check.

I have looked but it must be behind something, or I am blind.

As always, appreciate the help.

in the front, under the driver's head, stamped in the block. May need to use a wire wheel to make it more visible. Then, of course, the side of the block. These are larger and have date code. Have to look under the car to see them.

1966 will probably NOT have a VIN related number.

This is a '69x 340... but location is the same! As noted above, drivers side front of block just below the head.

I hope your gobt is not making this a legal issue, because regardless of original or swapped engine, there IS NO RELATIONSHIP between the engine no. and the vehicle body in 66. Even in 68? 69? when partial VIN was stamped on the engine, the front block no. did NOT reflect the VIN

Heck, in NZ (and most likely OZ as well), even in '71 the VIN number wasn't stamped in the block.

Then again, that's for Australian built, RH drive cars...

On a '68 318 block, the only number stamped into it would be the year code, displacement, and a calendar date when it was assembled. These numbers as mentioned are under the head gasket seam on the upper part of the left side front of the block. Left side being the driver's side here in the U.S.

Waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit a minute........

The OP has a 1966 318 in a 1966 Barracuda????

Canadian?

A US 66 would not have a 318 because a 66 318 is a poly and pretty wide.

AFAIK, Barracuda didn't get a 318 until 1968.

Should be a 273 in a 66.

Australian engine on the shoulder above the starter motor ,US usually on the pan rail front R/H side

Calm down it's all good.:) It's in Ausstralia.
It's an Aussie 318 LA block, simple

And thanks again for your help, much appreciated:thumbsup:

Many thanks.

It just wasn't clear that it was a transplant engine.
