My search for a shorty D100 is over

Wasn’t looking to buy anything, just checking out the truck.

You might even swing by me once you’re done, Barona is only 14 miles from the house!
Been through the lights at barona many times. And with Irwindale gone, that’s kinda our home track now. Sad, I miss Irwindale already.

Feel free to let me know if you want any measurements from the two different crossmembers I mentioned in that other thread.
Thank you. This weekend I’ll be crossing that bridge.

Got a little done the last few days after work. Last night was heater hoses, a radiator recovery tank, some throttle return springs, coil mounted, and I started on some wiring. My trans controller from ETrans control says it’s shipped and that’s a big piece of the puzzle still missing.
Last Saturday I muscled the 46RE on and off my chest one too many times (**** those things are heavy) and gave up trying so yesterday I bought a proper transmission jack. Hopefully this Saturday the trans can go in the truck for good and I can start on the crossmember and exhaust. Getting close.

Running the 46RE !! Awesome, once up n going keep us updated. Really interested in that controller and how well it works. I was checking it out and almost went that route before I found an RH. My setup is running well but its always good to know of other options. At 1950rpm I'm flying down the road at 85mph... my next endeavor is a suregrip and a 3.90 gear set. but I'm waffling now on the 3.90 or a 3.73. if I do the meth on spicers calculator I can run the 3.90 at 80mph and be around 2200-2500rpm.. Spicer Transmission Ratio RPM Calculator

Yea I’m kinda the test dummy for this deal and I can’t find any first hand accounts of someone using it. My problem was I already had the 46re built by a very good trans builder years ago with instructions to make it indestructible at any cost and this is the only way I’ll be able to use it. We’ll see, and I’ll definitely post how it goes here, good or bad.

This weekend was productive for sure. Saturday I had help in the form of a Troy and Sunday my little bro flew in from North Carolina and I put him to work. Saturday we loaded up the 46RE on to the (overloaded) transmission jack and bolted it up. Only a small 6” portion of the pinch weld had to be hammered flat for dipstick clearance and the trans fit great. Sunday we made a trans crossmember with the Chevy mount from my T56 and some steel I pillaged from work. It turned out great and the trans is now completely installed. We also were able to stuff the headers in up from the bottom while the truck was jacked up high with only a slight 1/8” clearance cut to the driver side frame rail. My transmission controller showed up UPS on Saturday so last night I opened the box and read through the very detailed instructions, seems pretty straightforward and that’ll be the next task. Didn’t document the work well this weekend but here’s a few pics.

Great progress. Looking good!

This is why trucks are awesome; look at all that room around the overdrive transmission.

In the pictures with the new crossmember installed and supporting the transmission, are those headers secured to the cylinder heads? Wondering if exhaust is going over the crossmember or under? Just curious.

I have a question

You put a a carbureted magnum in there right?
Then why the 46 RE?
why not a 518/46 RH?
how are you gonna control the governor solenoid and lockup? With an earlier version (prior to 96) which would have been an a 518/46RH you wouldn't need no black box.

Headers are bolted up. The passenger side will clear but the driver side I might have to get creative. My OCD will likely make me snake both pipes up close to the floor and over the crossmember. I hate seeing exhaust under a vehicle.

Go read post 357. I had a built 46RE already and I’m trying trans controller from ETrans control.

Ok so you had this trans built for "something else" at one time? How much is this controller costing and how much is involved in wiring it in, is there any manual override of any sort?
Just wondering Because I'm interested, I have a couple of things that I was wanting to add an OD to that are carbureted. Meant no computer needed.
I am in the middle of building an a500 (42RH) for one such project now, and my son wants to do the same for one of his cars, this might be an option in case I happen across an RE trans for it instead of an RH.

I’ll let you know how it goes right here. I’m going to document it. The entire controller, harness, display kit was a wink over $800. Go to https://etranscontrol.com/shop/tcm-430/ and have a look.
