Little $250 69 Valiant

Just got caught up and wow you do some very impressive work, can't wait to see more.

Hmmmm I think if I stop going to the Gym to work on my car the Wife wont let me live it down! LOL
 
I think I need to make a trip to a friends shop and see if I can make myself very in debt to him. I am praying he may be able to let me tuck my car away for a week or so at his shop so I can go strip it and spray it with a good sealer primer. Then I guess if I can do that, Ill bring it home and strip only the areas I need to do body work on. Ill just go back with rattle can sealer and cover any work I do. At least at that point I can salvage the body from more rust. He is a hell of a guy, so we shall see!
 
Just went out and stood in the garage behind the 46 and realized its coming out and the Valiant is headed back in! I only have a bunch of little crap that needs to be buttoned up before all that is left is the cosmetics! So back into the dog house she goes. I need to get the list done!
Hmmm I think I need to make a new list.
1. seat belt install
2. Console Carpet
3. Coil bracket
4. Put another coat od Fiberglass on the dash pad and Fill and Sand, and repeat!
5.straighten, and polish Door sill plates, and install.
6.refinish Steering Wheel and re-install
7. paint and re-install my column sleeve.
8. Build new glove box "box" w/ radio accommodations
9. Install overflow tank. (may Fabricate a really cool one)
10.Have headers "clearanced" around the steering linkage
11.New bumper bolts and bolt them on solid.
12.Finish custom front bumper driving light install.
13. Fabricate custom rear window defroster from ceramic auto heater I have.
14. Make new rear dash panel to cover rear deck.
15. Remake door panels? (maybe)
16.Insulate trunk with Dynamat or similar product.

21. Begin Body Work.
22. Paint
23. Install all new exterior seals
24. Finish painting wheels to look "torque thrust D" style.
25.Damn near complete at that point!

Managed to get at least something done! LOL small but still going somewhere.
 
Hi...you impress me by the amount of work you have done..paying for the work to be done doesn't impress me..

Could you explaine how you buff the chrome so well..I had expected someone to ask ..

wow great looking car, nice job on everything thus far. I never see those cars around and to tell you the truth it's really refreshing to see a mopar, especially an a body that you don't see that often. Great work good luck with whatever else you have to finish, it looks great!
 
Thx guys! Hey Grassy, Ill see what I can put together for an explanation. Its easier and cheaper than you may think. You can manage to get all the things needed for under 25.00 I think.

I havent touched my poor car!
She stopped running because of some stupid electrical bug, and then winter hit, and now I cant jockey the cars around to get it in the garage to finish up the body work! UGHHHHHHHH!

So Im back on here trying to get motivated by all the other great builds!!!
 
in a pinch all you need do is run a wire from the hot side of the battery to the positive side of the coil, then use a screwdriver on the solenoid to start your car.
if you wanna get fancy put a ballast resistor in the line and alligator clips on each end, put it in your glovebox for just such an emergency on old Mopars, or any old car.
they were so EASY to steal back in the day!
 
Got it solved today!!!! It is the ignition switch. It is "glitchy" if you will. I have a new one coming. I needed it anyhow, the tumblers were so shot that the key barely worked anyhow. Once I get that in, Ill be moving cars around and building a little "shed" for my compressor to be outside the garage. Then it'll drive the neighbors nuts but I can get stuff done in the garage!!! LOL
 
Ignition is halfway here! Man Im glad I started checking out whats new on the site. It may have been just in time to get her painted before the good weather gets here. I need to start workin go n my list up there so I can get it inspected to drive it to work this year!!!! Thx FABO members for your insiration!!!
 
Ok so, the ignition got here, and turned out to be the wrong one. Soon after that I found that I have a ONE YEAR ONLY ignition switch! So after findeing them at a higher price than I was willing to pay, it forced me to "rebuild" mine. Turned out great and its running again!!!!

So now that it runs again, I was able to get it out of the driveway, pull the 46 outta' the garage and swap places. I can now get back to the body work.
At Christmas I received a pneumatic in line sander. That should make all this body work a tad easier!!! Between that and the D/A I got last year, and all the other body tools I have picked up along the way. Now I just need the skills!!!!!! LOL
Ill be sure to get some recent pics of the repairs Ill have to make as well as the repairs made. Ill keep pictures up here on a normal basis now!

I'm sure the wife will love this!!! LOL Actually she wants me to finish this, so I can start on the 46'

Well I happened to get out and do a bit of body work today! HOLY CRAP I managed to be productive on the Valiant!
I straitened the right rear quarter and then threw a coat of mud on it. It was a bit cold today so Im a tad worried about the conditions. I wanted to move forward after such a long stint of not doing anything!
Ill post up some pics tomorrow!
 
Well, not much to look at but....
So here is the first coat of mud, after the beatings commenced on the right rear quarter. I got it pretty damn straight really.
I hope I can manage to find the body lines with out removing too much filler! I hate doing body work. Im a perfectionist to a degree as well, so it really sucks! I dont want it to be half *** so I have to keep doing something I dont like!!!! LOL This kicks the whole "instant gratification" thing out the window! LOL

sweet build. i am for sure doing the guage mod to mine and probably something with driving lights it looks real clean
 
So I started the body work on the rear quarters. I hope to head over this weekend and replace the rusted out spots. But yesterday, I managed to get the Bondo sanded down and man it came out nice! Im not done yet, but it was sweet. The correct tools for the job make body work soooooooooooo much easier!!!!! Here is the latest!
The lines are more crisp than the factory lines. I like that, but that's a bunch of added work all over the car if I try to make it happen along the entire side.
We shall see!!!!

Searching for 17 or 18" wheels now too! I want them bad!!! Im trying to figure where I can come up with more cash!!!!! My adapters have been selling like crazy, but I have plans for that cash. I need to sell some parts!!! LOL
 
Ill have some pics up tomorrow, but I took my spare (beat up) bumper to work and had them Powder Coat it "Chrome" to see the quality. Of course its no comparison to real chrome but it is pretty nice. A very cheap alternative to rechroming the bumper I have cut holes in to mount my lights.
I plan to try to finish the fabrication on the bumper so I can get it coated. I am pretty happy with what they did with my crappy bumper.

Great thread! Keep up the good work. Sometimes you get to points where you ask yourself, "WTH am I doing???" But when things start taking shape like they are, you're already more than half way there. Awesome.
