Did the same with 302 stock valve heads with a comp XE256H cam and 625 carb. Was in a truck with 3.55 gear. High idle vacuum, great off idle acceleration and surprising top end power. We beat the heck out of this towing, working and slide in old heavy camper, slightly ported stock heads did great.

Before disassembly I would set this up like it’s on an engine stand, get a points distributor and any carb and try and start, run it.

To yellow rose, have learned about 70 degree timed oiling from your previous posts and would like to see your diagrams or video, want to know about bearing saddle grooving/drilling or crank drilling to accomplish this. My son's engine will be over 7500 through traps.

Start inexpensive and simple, leave is not too bad, needs converter.
