I am not an expert: I have my '64 225 set to 2.5 BTDC at a 550rpm at warmed up idle. Also have a 6 Blade fan, stock Modine radiator. I have had the gauge show hot but a laser thermometer showed proper temps. The problem was the electrical sender/wire and gauge.
Try an extra ground wire from the block to fire wall. that worked for me on the same problem a few years back.
Also I find that my 225/6 at correct idle just does not move enough air especially at long L.A. stops. After a lot of tests etc. I found that a big toe on the pedal [about 20-40 rpm]...

I think that the breather to air cleaner hose is a smog control idea to re-cycle fumes down the carb for burning. OK idea - otherwise; out the breather -through the firewall or hood into the vents and cab. But is ok for engine and I do not think has an effect on pcv.

Slant Six distributor location is prone to accumulation of moisture and often builds up corrosion, and then just does not work. I changed over to a electronic ignition and change the cap and rotor once a year. Never had any problems since

The wheel on the horn contact is very important! All the direct rubbing cannot be good on the steering wheel's contact ring .
