building a 451, need cam help

If this is going to be a street build, stay away from a solid roller, Roller cams have more area under the curve so they make more power with less Dur. numbers then FT cams. But they do need "more" spring pressure then FTs , The XR292HR has a VG rep. for making nice streetable power.

How common is a wiped cam lobe?

I have to say this, Cam failure is nothing new, It was very common, even back in the 60s/70s, I can't count how many engines i'v tore down that had lobes failing or wiped, Chevies were more common because of there smaller lifter diameter, The problems today are different cam profiles with...

    Cam help

I sent mine off to Bullet Cams, They couldn't do much, but ended up with 477/477 lift, 218/218 dur. @50 & he put it on a 112 from a 114 LSA. It was good for 5K shifts & that was it, In my 71 Swinger i ran 12.5s @ 105 consistantly, the lower end was stock, just an Air-Gap intake, 650dp & headers...

    440 power guestimation

I ran with the best of them running "bone" stock 906 heads, Yes, "BONE" stock, look at my sig, that was in a 75 duster, Hyd. FT cam & bolt-ons, 9.73 compression, 4.10 gears & a 4400 stall. Its all in the combo. Ran a best of 10.91 at 120 on a 1.51 60ft., I then made some changes, small FT solid...

    440 power guestimation

With a stock 452 head, .039" gasket, & a FT piston (with valve relieves) around 0.010" below deck you'll be right around 9.6-9.7.1, borderline for pump gas, I'd shoot for 9.5.1, You'll like that XE cam, it is powerful, I ran a 10.91 with that cam in my 451. I'd say you'll be around 475 Hp &...

    china airgap intakes on ebay

Amen!!! I ran one of those crap-olla intakes on my 360 magnum with 0 issues, Just took off a Perf. 2-0 eddy that was on my BBC, 1 port was smaller then the rest & it was a virgin intake LOL, was there casting flash in the runners, YUP sure was.... So i purchased another crap-olla Pro-comp...

    Is this a good idea?

Let me add, I had a stock 74 360 Dart Sport, it was a 4sp. car, It ran pretty good, But i installed a 75 400 in a 72 Duster, it was out of a Newport, This engine was bone stock, right down to the stock 2 barrel & Exhaust manifolds, it even had single exhaust LOL, stock rearend & 12" stock...

    Is this a good idea?

I say go for it too, A stock 383 will have more grunt then a low compression 360 of that era, If you did go with a 360, pass on the earlier LA engines, go right to a Magnum engine, higher compression, better heads, roller cam, "win-win" on that one. I ran 12.5s @ 105 with a stock bottom ended 95...

    Running Lean?

1st. get the timing right, Then jet it up in the primaries & get it were it feels good, then start jetting the rear, you really need some track time, jet for best MPH, But remember, Running the fastest MPH at the track with result in a richer condition on the street in stop & go traffic, But you...

    POS GM G-Body!

Its been awhile, but i figured i'd vent on the mopar board, Heck its a GM bashing thing lol, I decided to build a GM this time around, found a fairly clean 78 Cutlass 2 years ago, Installed a 406 sbc, well wasn't fast enough, sooooo i went & built a 469 BBC, Installed a 9" with a spool & 3.73...

Did I over cam my 408 for the street?

I'm thinking 3.58 stroke, yeah i'll agree the 3.55s should work good, but he could use abit more stall.
