Huge fan. I call it "white rap".

greenhornet, I wouldn't really call them "folk" music but try some Allison Krauss and Union Station, their stuff is amazing in my opinion. Also Nickel Creek, VERY talented for as young as they are they hold their own with a lot of the older bluegrass bands but they have a modern sound - some of it is a little dark though. I am out of the loop but I am sure there are more.

NO:pukel::sleepy1::puker::vom:

But how do ya REALLY feel, Joe? Don't hold back!

I used to buy Ozzy Osbourne & the Osborn Brothers (bluegrass) in the 70's. I was hearing some of the same licks with or without the distortion. There's only two kinds of music anyway. There's Good music and there's BAD Music!

Kind of mainstream as bluegrass goes, but I loved that show.

My Mom's a big fan of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. I grew up listening. Even his more recent gospel music still has the bluegrass tone.

I have always been a rocker, classic, hard-rock, metal, and particularly progressive rock and metal. My parents were always country music fans but I never could dig it... still can't actually (like most forms of "pop" music). My dad also loved bluegrass, and while it was never my thing, I could appreciate the musicianship. Just a little too old timey for me back then.

Fast forward 20+ years... still a hardcore rocker but some of these modern bluegrass players are up to and in many cases surpass the talent level that hasn't existed in rock music for many years (besides the few that are still around from way back when - these new bands just ain't got it for the most part).

I have seen Alison Krauss and Union Station 3 times... went all the way out to Vegas to see them the first time. Seen Rhonda Vincent and the Rage three times, Cherryholmes twice, Ricky Skaggs once... Dan Tyminski twice, and Jerry Douglas once (the last two are Union Station members). All good stuff. Also agree with Rocky65 on Nickel Creek.

Last time I saw that yellow68runner dude he was blasting some funky Canadian music... :headbang:

My backround is similar to 67Dart440. My parents are into country. I used to be into metal, rock, and big hair bands, but I've found over the last couple years that I am really starting to like bluegrass.

Years ago I used to get a kick out of Hayseed Dixie and Iron Horse. They play Metalica and ACDC songs, but in bluegrass style. Now, I will actually set my satelite radio in the car to the bluegrass country station. I find it's impossible to have road rage while listening to a fiddle and banjo. :toothy10:

I love the voice of Allison Krauss. She has the voice of an angel.

I'm a rocker as well. But really enjoy some occasional bluegrass. If ya like bluegrass check out Jalan Crossland or Trampled By Turtles.

My backround is the same as 68Dart440 said. I used to be into metal, rock, and big hair bands, but I've found over the last couple years that I am really starting to like bluegrass.

Metallica eh? That is not suprising to me... the "barnburner" bluegrass stuff has always reminded me of hillbilly thrash!! And I think it could definitely lead to some road rage!!

Have never heard of either of these bands... just checked out the Iron Horse Enter Sandman cover... that is too cool!! Thanks!!

That Allison Krauss is a cupcake. Great music. Try Doyle Lawson and Quick Silver. Ricky Scaggs in another. Vince Gill aint no slouch. The guy that played with Allison did the music for " Oh Brother Where art Thou" These guys most generally have some killer harmony. You're gona make a good VP Hornet.

How 'bout that great Michigan band "Company of Strangers"??? Oops, thats my band. I have been pickin' in bluegrass for as long as I can remember, playing the upright bass in my band since 1989. My whole family loves bluegrass, especially my son Ian. He loves the Gibson Brothers, we just went to their concert last saturday. Blue Highway, Ronnie Bowman, Lonesome River Band, Don Rigsby, Del McCoury, the list could go on and on. I had the pleasure of meeting a couple hundred bluegrass musicians at the IBMA last year, and picking with some of the greats. You won't find a nicer bunch of musicians than the bluegrassers!!! Now, pick on all!!! Geof

It don't get no better.

I got every bluegrass tune they ever recorded.

My favorite by Alison Krause. Not only is she a knockout, she sings unlike any woman I've ever heard.

my first job was at factory merchants mall in ft chiswell va, in the summer we would have bake sales and bluegrass bands playing at every corner of the mall..it brought in a huge crowd. i wouldnt buy and cd's or anything but when i was even younger would love to go to the local bluegrass festivals and chase the skirt a little... :D i was like a barking dog chasin a car...didnt know what to do with it but it sure was fun chasin it!

GreenHornet, you owe it to yourself to check out Hayseed Dixie. It's already been pointed out that they do covers of AC/DC (hence the name) and Metalica, but they also do KISS, Ted Nugent, Black Sabeth and other Classic heavy metal. If you like that and want something a little different, the same guys play under the name Kerosene Brothers for original music.

Loved the "Foggy Mountain Breakdown"!!! Anyone know the other band members, 'specially the soloists??. And all those guys trading of the one microphone looked so smooth doing it.

Saw crooked still a few months ago. Very good. Bela fleck and the flectones are playing tomorrow night. Might go see them. Great jazzy contemporary bluegrass stuff.
