I know the title is long but it had to be.

I have a Hot Rod City garage AL tank in my protouring 69 Cuda. I finally got it to that point of being a daily driver but I have been unable to get fuel gauge to work closer than being 1/4 tank off. That doesn't concern me as much as I'm not able to use the last 4 gallons of gas in my tank. I have had 3 episodes when I have ran fully out of gas needing a tow to the gas station and then filled up to find out I still had approx 4 gallons in the tank. It seams that I can't utilize the last 4 gallons in my tank. I have looked at all options and I have one additional question, could the protouring "rake" of my car being totally flat not allow the pump to utilize the last 4 gallons of fuel in my tank?

Sounds more like a pickup issue.
More details on your build would help. Mechanical pump? EFI? Electric pump? In-tank?

What sending unit do you have in the car? If you are running an aftermarket sender, they are notorious for incorrect readings. If you have the OEM sender, look up Wolf & Sons & send it to them to have it rebuilt. If not, see if you can acquire one in the wanted section here & send it off. There have been multiple discussions as to the accuracy of the chinese built senders on this site.

your pick up sock should be bottom front edge with a touring rake, or wherever the lowest part of the tank is for sure. Its a new tank, does it have a sump?

If it was me, I'd drop the tank and have a look inside. See if you can get a good look at the pickup. Is it sitting up off the bottom of the tank quite a bit? If so, you could probably bend it slightly so it's sitting closer to the bottom.

Just how much of a "rake" do you have? These cars were never designed to handle or be driven on the street with "nose down" at least by much. There's always "build a sump" tank

I have an in tank aeromotive phatom 340 in Hot Rod Garage's A body tank which is fairly well baffled. My system is Fast Man EZ EFI. The rake of my car is flat protouring, not *** in the air. I was wondering that with my lack of rake angle that my pickup sock my not be in the lowest region of the gas tank leading to my issue. Has anyone heard of this happening?

Thank you guys for the quick response

pull the filler tube and look at the pick up in the tank. until you do that you don't know what's going on

if you dont have a STOCK fuel pick up, your NEVER going to get it to read right...unless of course you are using an aftermarket gauge, or a metermatch or something

Yep. Use meter match to get the gauge correct.
Your pump is probably riding high and not low enough into your sump. The aeromotive pump mount looks like they are made to support multiple depths. I'd try to run the pump as close to the bottom of the tank as possible.

Just had too!

I will look into all those things you guys mentioned. With the last rake pictured I don't even think he would need a pump, gravity fed to carb.

You guys have been helpful, thank you.

it's not just that the gauge isn't right. it had 4 gallons still in it when the motor died. multiple issues

have you tried these? i've seen it before, and it looked cool, but saw some reviews where the fabric ended up disintegrating. but i don't know what kind of fuel or how long
Nope. I'd just plumb the sock to the lowest point of the tank......4 gallons in a tank that is left untouched is kinda 'off'. And they are a little pricey, but some guys got money to toss at a problem and some don't.

check. wasn't talking about this type of problem necessarily, just that i've seen some people use this as a way to try and get around having a sump around the pick up.
