I need to borrow a 67 up console tach mounting base

-
Well 24 hours from borrowing a tack mount base, ( thanks killerslant) I have sent off for a polished stainless steel 3D print! This has been my fastest turnaround.

Killerslant is even loaning me the tach housing to be sure it all fits propperly.

When all is said and done I'll also make a template to locate the mount holes on the console.

I'll have 2 versions, one 67/68 and 69 up.

I had 2 threads going for this same project.

Toolmanmike merged them together for me.

BTW if anyone has a console with the factory tach not installed, I need to get some dimensions to make a template for locating it on consoles that did not come with it.

Unfortunately the console does not have any markings on it.

Ya. this is a cool thing Dana is doing. Send him a pm if you are interested in a product. We don't want this thread to go to a sale ad.

I went ahead and sent my 69 top plate so he should be able to make a nice template to sit on top and drill the holes through. Looks like he has a good start on making up the hard to find parts for these . Good luck with the project Dana.

Here you go Dana...
do you have a caliper you could measure the hole diameter? in your photo it looks to be 1 5/16

it looks like the upper edge of the hole is 1 1/16" down is that correct?

If you can get me these dimensions with a caliper that would be really great.

This will help me locate the big hole to the mounting holes

Those pics are not mine, and my console is together and installed now

The big hole top edge is about 1 1/8” from the top inside edge of the top plate, as per the ruler. The hole itself is 1 1/4” in size, and centered on the top plate. Those measurements, except the centering, aren’t critical as it’s all covered up when installed.

I can’t give you the mounting hole dimensions as I just used the adapter piece I had made, as a jig.

Edit: My adapter is made out of billet aluminum.

I believe those pics are mine. I just had my hands on that console today. Over time nearly every stud to hold the top to the console has been broken off. As it is a four speed console I think I will just make some plates to clamp the top to the base with the boot screws. As for the base I have one here that was machined by somebody who borrowed the original that I used to have. It came out really nice, but it a lot less hollow than that one. For those who have never had their hands on one of these, you will notice form the pics that they are NOT level. This piece will go back on my son's console with the Charger clock as his Dart has a Barracuda dash with a tach.

I had some made. I tested them polishing the part and they did not do an adequate job.

So in the future I'll have them available unfinished. Like a sand cast finish.

I'm going to see a local polisher but it will add about 50.00 per unit.

Pm me if you want to buy one.

I have made the plastic part and it works fine,
I twisted a tach head case in one 100 times and while it did damage the plastic between the divots they were still intact and functional.

I have some other plastics to test out. And to see if my manufacturer can make them out of a better plastic

Start a sale thread to make this legal.
