I had a AV2 on my 340 and took it off. Sent the original carb to Woodruff and they did a great job! Run fantastic out of the box and looked like new.
A TQ built by a pro, IMO is the best street carbBest aftermarket carb for your combo is the Edel AVS2. It has small primaries with annular boosters that give great throttle response.
You already have the best carb on it: the TQ. If you don't know how to re-build/tune it, find somebody who knows.
I believe Woodruff Carbs specialises in them, somebody on here probably has his details.
I've never seen a small block COME with an 850. That means nothing. I've certainly not seen it all, but I've always thought all the 340s that had the TQ came with the 800.My 72 340 3 speed came with the 850tq.I swore the hood was going to get sucked in. Years later I tried a holly 600cfm non SB and even after being jet and set by myself and Mopar speed shop the cars felt like a 318 grandpa. Next was a holly 650. I believe it was a 8155 spread bore, and she ran better than stock. Again years later I tried after after advice a Edelbrock 600 non SB and she went back to the 318 dog. IMO stock or mildly modified they like SB
Man I don't know. Do an internet search for "Edelbrock 1407 problems" and you get thousands of hits. Even I have one I couldn't get right.Ed 750 afb, simple enough even I can figure it out. Well mostly
It's not quite an AVS2 but it works good. Definitely hit or miss depending on what engine it gets put on but I wouldn't turn a free one down. No way I'd buy one new at $400 or whatever they're askingMan I don't know. Do an internet search for "Edelbrock 1407 problems" and you get thousands of hits. Even I have one I couldn't get right.
my 70 340 came with a 650 from the factory , no ? ran 13.9 stockI like the Street Demon idea, but a 750 no doubt. I really like mine. It's still a tad lean after I put in one size smaller metering rods. I'm going up one size on the primary jets next. That should take care of it. I wouldn't put a 650 anything on a 340. They came with an 800 after all.
I was talking about Thermoquads. They appeared for the 71 model year.my 70 340 came with a 650 from the factory , no ? ran 13.9 stock
