What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
Finished restoring the last item....the steering column. The car goes for paint tomorrow and I can start reassembly in a week. I hope to get it out this summer!

Passenger side, complete. Now I'm going to change out the master cylinder in a few weeks. I have much to do in the next few weeks so I will not be able to work on it.

Right front side marker would not light.

Traced the wiring back over to a connection junction on the core support near the battery.

Lots of corrosion there, that was under some old 1989 cloth tape, and one separated wire.

All fixed now, things working well.

Have 2 new headlight doors with new amber lenses to install next when I get time.

A friend of mine sent me this picture of the Jaundiced GT today. The picture was taken, about 4 years ago, during our car club's fall color cruise. This party store/gas station is located right next door to the "haunted" Bruce Mansion in Brown City, MI.

The new owner of the mansion happened to be working in the mansion when we pulled into the party store/gas station and asked us if we wanted to get some pictures in the front yard. Who could say no? Cool guy!

Installed headliner and rear shelf cove. Talk about a pain in the ***. Lucy learned some new words today. Carpet and seats next weekend

Wiped it down and cleaned the rubber off the quarter panels and rewaxed them. Did my underbody safety checks and cleaned some things up underneath. I like to do that at least about every 2 race outings. Easy to keep clean if you stay after it as it's all brush painted black underneath (mostly POR-15 from PO).

Plan is to go back to the track next weekend. So loaded it in the trailer and put it all back in the shop to wait.

One thing led to another and I decided to repair as needed, clean and repaint all of my plastic trim to its original color. The headliner either needed to be replaced or fixed and painted, so out it came. Headliner can be saved, but I think I'm going to have to glue fabric over the cardboard, due to the delamination around the edges and the hole towards the front windshield. If anyone wants to share how they fixed their headliner, I'm all ears. I'm doing this on the cheap, so I'm working with what I have. I was afraid of what I might find on the roof after dropping the headliner since the car has a factory vinyl top, but it seems pretty solid. A lot of the discoloration on the roof picture is adhesive and stained foam I haven't yet removed. Other than finding a lot of nasty dried out foam and half of a petrified mouse, I was happy with getting the headliner out in one piece. Here's some pictures of what I've done and what's left:
Finished console (what started it all), just have to reassemble the top:

Parts I've painted:

Finally, headliner and the inner roof:

Well...not one of my Demons but it's their big older brother. It is now officially his turn to resurrect after 31+ years waiting in the wings. Will get new sheetmetal, paint, and freshen the 440. But no more racing in his future. Just gonna be a big cruiser. Something between the show pony 71 Demon and the street/strip 72 Demon.

I've had this car since 1978...1st car I ever bought. 49k miles now.

Completed reassembly of my 16:1 worm gear and ball nut assembly. Also got my last needle bearing in the mail and found out it was not right. :-( Had to order another, and the project is on hold until that arrives.

Nice car. I like the period racing parts.

Getting so close after so long

Connected hard fuel line to the fuel pump
Cleaned, painted and installed the pan on the transmission
Attached the TTI Exhaust tips
Installed the new 15" wheels and tires
Installed the Signet rear badge.

Rolled it out into the sunshine just for good measure. It was much nicer out today than was forecast

Replace the rear diff gear oil and gasket tomorrow. That was the only chore on the list I didn't get to from today. Then get the front alignment done.

My buddy and I dusted off the cars yesterday for the first Cars and Coffee of the year. It was cold and windy but it was nice to get them out and stretch their legs a little!

Installed a 2step, line lock and hopefully fixed the leak from the front bearing retainer. Waiting for the snow to melt and the salt to be washed away (I’d take another foot of snow Braaaaap!)
