do any of you use a 9 3/4 re if so what are the pros and cons of it...does it have to large of a wheel track??? and it is it too big for a dart???

I do not have one. But if your going to get one, I would guess that you'll ethier need to have it custom fit or allready purchased that way. The only ones stock for the car that I can think off may be the HEMI cars from the factory from the late 60's.

The Pro of it would be that the rear is a strong as they get.
The only Con I can think off is spending the bucks on a OE or custom fit.
The power cunsumtion factor I think is a overrated thing. It may consume more power to turn it, but it ain't jack IMO.
I have seen a few TV tests on this topic. The amount of extra power from small to large rear was nothing really.

I have one in my 67 Dart, tuff to break, heavy, can't change gears as easy as a 8 3/4, but sure looks good from behind, Moser & Strange both make complete rear ends any width.

The dart I have is a 67 dart gt with a 675HP 426 max wedge motor.I have a dana for my car with 3.73 gears and posi.I love it because i can beat the PISS out of it all day and it just says more baby. Now the dana,s only come in hemi 4 spd cars and 440 6 pack 4 spd cars, and trucks/pickups.Most people just get a truck diff and cut the ends off and install 8 3/4 axle ends and get axles for it,done deal, now try to brake it.If you intend to do what I do,the dana is the way to go,if you are more gentle on your car and do not the bucks to spend, the 8 3/4 is fine and a great to work with,as its behind all automatic hemis and 440,s,383,s and 340,s.mrmopartech

I think I read somewhere that they weigh like 100 lbs more- but I'd take the extra insurance anyday- I'm trying to sell my pickup right now to buy a strange setup!

I have one in my car. Custom width to get the wheels and tires to fit just right. Put it in and forget about it. I switched from an 8 3/4 back in 2002 and saw no change in E.T. from the added weight. Bullet proof. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever and i must be in the minority because I would actually rather change gears in a Dana than an 8 3/4.

Cons: Car housings with a snubber mount a becoming rare and some people cringe at the thought of cutting one. I did it anyways. :evil4:

Moparracer- what srings are you running? and are using (I'm sure you are) spring relocate kit or something else- you car looks perfect, I'd like mine to sit about like that

I'm running Super Stock springs, an Alston floater kit and SW ladder bars. The floater brackets have holes to adjust ride height. The springs have been moved in under the framerails with the relocation kit.
This is a copy of the suspension in a car built by Herb McCandless in the early 70's. A friend of mine owns the old super stocker, which was actually an Ed Hamburger car that was built by Herb.
It's an old school suspension that still works today.
