Hello Everybody,
I picked up a 1971 Plymouth Valiant Scamp (Plymouth version of the Dart Swinger) late 2009. It's original with only 50k on the odometer.

Well maybe not completely original, the original owner gave it to her grandson after her husband passed away. He swapped the intake and carb with an edlebrock setup, new valve covers, and mild cam. He put the rally rims on it and was going to use it for a winter vehicle so he wouldn't have to drive his Daytona (what a dipshit). Well, one of his buddies who was a gearhead or mopar fan convinced him otherwise. So he sold it for $3500.

The guy who bought it put 340 hoodscoops, new rear shocks and a measly 5,000 miles on it. He also picked up a set of duster front brakes to do a disc conversion. He had it for 10 years and decided he wanted a Hemi Durango, so he sold it to me for $4500. :toothy7:

Now, I'm debating between keeping it original and touching up the small amount of rust or having the entire body repainted. I have the original build sheet, and tons of extra goodies too. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey bud, welcome aboard, nice car, good sahpe.

Nice car. I'd leave it alone for the most part, too nice to molest. New carpet, rust repair, paint the engine bay body color and get the stance and wheels and tires that you want then drive it!

I wouldn't change it, just do the things it needs. Wow, the body panels look very straight. You are lucky that car found you.

Yeah, the pictures make the carpet look dirty, but it's pretty clean. Wouldn't hurt to get steam cleaned. My only problem is finding a body man who can touch up the paint and tint it to match 39 year old faded paint. Other than that I want to keep it as original as possible. Maybe move the front seat back 4-6", kinda tight fit.

Definitely appreciate the comments guys, I hope to become a nice staple here.

Welcome to FABO!
I vote to clean it up and drive it as is.... they are only original once. Nice car, i am a sucker for green with a green interior!

Welcom to FABO! Nice car!

Not sure how it is on your car but on mine there were two sets of bolt holes holding the seat to the tracks. One set moved the seat back a bit & tilted the back toward the rear. I drove my car with the seat all of the way back & still got cramped a bit on long trips. Moved the seat to the 2nd set of holes & I couldn't push the peadls all of the way down when the seat was all of the way back. I'm about 5'10". It's worth a look.

very nice car i would put i wider tire in the back get the bay painted and drive the wheels off of the car doing the disc brake upgrade would be nice as well just keep the old parts though

Welcome to FABO. That's one clean machine, very nice. I can't comment on what to do witht the car other than it's yours do what you want. Keep us up dated.8)

i would just do little things to it for now. so you can still drive it and enjoy it. congradulations on a beautiful car.

beautiful car !!

As for the black in the engine bay, a bet a little bit of thinner would take the black paint off.
And any good (and I don't mean national chain or cheapo) body shop can fix the rust and blend the paint.

Looks like it was a radio delete car.

Next time you go to a car show..look around for really nice cars and ask the owners who did their paintwork.

Hey that is a nice ride! I'd try to keep it as is, but repair only the necessary things to keep it from deteriorating further. Enjoy the site!

Welcome to fabo . that's one nice scamp :love7:.I'd leave it as original as possible if it were Mine. Naw... probably not. I can't leave anything alone,LOL !Have fun with it !

Looks good as is. If you have the paint touched up, I think it would look better with the scoops painted to match the body. Two flat black scoops look out of place, but thats just me.

I like the interior. So many people seem to want to ditch the greens and browns and go with black interior and a blue, red, or some other common paint color.
I really dig the green!

good looking car.

its a 318 scamp. do what ever you want to it. tub it, chop it whatever. its your car do what you feel you need to do with it. big block would be cool in it.
