greatest rock n roll front men.......

Here is a question. What constitutes a "Great Frontman"?

There are names here that could play guitar and sing but when it comes to working the crowd some of these guys just don't cut it.

Stevie Ray was great as a player but the greatest front man?
I like KISS, great show but they are all gimics.
Bonn Scott was a wild one, he's there.
Hendrix? legendary guitarist but great front man?
Jim Morrison. If you are into the zombie look I guess.
Have never seen the Stones but I would give Mic the nod.
Alice Cooper is in. Oh yeah!
J. Hetfield is good but with out his long hair it's just not the same.
OZZY in due to him being OZZY.
DLR...Come on! Maybe pre 1980

I am not ragging your pics, it's just that some of these are a head scratcher. Have you actually seen these guys perform, either live or on DVD?

To me the front man is the show. Guitars, drums and keyboards are great additions but still need the front man to bring the show alive. I am not saying a great guitar player or drummer cant get you going(Angus Young, Keith Moon) but most just stand/sit there. Oh yeah dont forget Tommy Lee upside down.

Just my 2 cents guys.

This actually needs to be different catagories due to different styles.

But all in all ther should be able to sing.(This is where DL Roth gets dropped)

Has anybody mentioned Rob Halford? You now the gay guy from Judas Priest.(not that theres anything wrong with that)8)
His voice is one of the best.

Sorry for the rant DRENO. Carry on.

Exactly.

I would have said Gheddy Lee in a heartbeat but he never was quite into theatrics although all of his energy went into his voice..
Which is why DIO and ted Nugent are my top two pics as far as theatrics and really getting into the music.

Yes, MCjagger is very theatrical but for some reason, I could never admire someone who has had David Bowie's ***** in his mouth and vice versa.

Morrison was definitely a great fron man, but he was such an asshole so I did not pick him, and sorry, I always though Elvis was such an egotistical asswipe, plus watching another man pump his pelvis was not something other men like so if you are a guy and you like Elvis in concert, YOU ARE A HOMOSEXUAL!!!! LOL.

I agree, Stevie Ray was killer on guitar but not a crowd stealing front man.

Warren Zevon's voice was gripping though he was in a different cartegory.

Mark Knopfler from Dire Straughts, killer guitar, yet sedated theatrics.

Now Ean Anderson frok Jethro Tull could rock the joint.

I forget the lead singer from Boston, but he could bring down the house live..killer vocals, theatrics.

As far as skill/ talent goes with lyrics and musical abilities, I'd have to say Gheddy Lee, DIO, and the lead singer from Kansas.
