Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

My K Frame to Frame Rail bolts have a big taper which locates the K Frame with zero tolerance. So it always sits in one location no way for it to be off. All I have to do is get bolts started in frame rails and once they run up the taper by bolt head precisely locates K Frame on Frame Rails...

    408 ignition curver advice

I used to run 32 fixed/locked timing no curve in my 414. Did that when auto trans used to be in there and converter was too tight for cam. Band aided the in gear idle problems. It never had an issue starting locked in at 32 like some say can happen. Once I got a looser converter in years ago...

    Well, I’m committed now!

A buddy told me before you paint set your gun air pressure and with gun empty simulate spraying the car to see if any dirt or debris is gonna pop up out of some where. So I took his advice and in most cases despite how careful I cleaned mask something almost always pop out and lands on the...

Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

A lot of tubes on mine are 1/8 inch away from things. But I run Schumacher Torque Strap so engine does not move and no vibrations and stock biscuit mounts don't break either.

Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

Like if a door gap was 1/8 inch on one car and a giant 1/4 inch gap on the next car rolling down the line quality control would look at it say yep thats fine ship that car to the dealer. Not to mention pot smoking hippies working on assembly plants in the 60s....

Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

If the k-frame motor mount locations were shifted 1/4 inch one way or the other that was considered within spec when the cars were built. Tolerances were loose and for factory parts that was usually fine. But when we go to put headers on that loop around everything and require extremely...

Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

The original welds on my k frame look like some pot smoking hippy in the 60s welded it up. And mine is sloppy requiring shims between mounts to get the headers to fit. Back in the 80s I ran Hooker Headers, didn't know about sloppy k-frames, and beat big dents in them to fit. Then the internet...

Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

Even on clean original unmolested cars engine can be sitting in there wrong due to extremely sloppy factory tolerances. Now add all those other factors age, ppl swapped k members, prior damage, aftermarket motor mounts, mods etc then probability of engine not located correctly goes up. The...

Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

The factory k frames and frame rail tolerances are very sloppy with these cars. Thats why TTI publishes engine placement specs. Cause if engine not located correctly side to side and height wise the headers wont fit. For my TTIs I had to add one motor mount shim on driver side and two on pass...

    Magnum Heads On 340

I have seen threads on this forum with this discussed before and I believe the EQ heads have extra casting material around the ports to allow 340 manifolds to seal. The magnum heads from Hughs may also have the extra material.
