It's no wonder the Slant 6 is so great!

Its reliability is its greatest asset. And it makes a hell of a boat anchor.

    NGK spark plugs breaking.

That is the recommended longer plug, to get the plug closer to the combustion area. Unless you have shaved your cylinder head an exuberant amount, hitting the piston isn't the problem. If you were hitting pistons, you would know it. My recommendation would be to thoroughly inspect the plug...

Any clutch fan options for 73 dart, /6?

So for clearance, the hot ticket was the Hayden 2765 Jag standard duty. This had the shortest mounting ability, but some found that it wasn't cooling effectively. So the update to the 2765, is the Hayden 2947 heavy duty fan clutch. From my reading, it is a scosche longer, but being HD, it moves...

    Whaddya think about these plugs?

Plugs look pretty normal. If my memory serves me correct, an old school trick was to run a plug a point or two hotter on the outer holes. Back when I was playing with the 1bbls on the slant, the early 1920 Holley carb worked really well.

    Slant 6 4bbl Carb Selection

Depends if you are a Holley or Edelbrock guy. Holley guy ? Holley 390 Edelbrock guy ? Edelbrock 500 On another note: Talking about funds and doing stuff cheaper. I would steer you in the direction of a Clifford or Ofenhauser intake, and Clifford headers. This will be less expensive, and give...

Four barrel carburetor for slant 6 Offenhauser manifold?

You are spinning your wheels messing with an old carb off a 383, for a slant. Way over carbed. Let me recommend a Holley 390 or Ede 500. Buy used, and save a ton of money. Good luck !

Someone educated ? WTF ? I just told you what it was. Its to vent the fumes from the carb. Early emissions bs. Yours is just hooked up somewhere else. Why even try, if you are going to insult us ?

    1971 , 198 slant vacuum hose

The bigger hose on the carb is known as the " bowl vent ". It usually goes to a charcoal canister, but in your case vents to the block some how. I would take it out of the equation if possible. If you can't scrounge a charcoal canister from a junked car, you can leave the bowl vent at the carb...

    Cheap Rebuild 225

With the price of parts, (If they are even available)and the price for labor, you might be better off buying a rebuilt long/short block. I bought a /6 from ATK years ago, and it still runs well.

    Edelbrock 500 AVS2

...to play with the cars. I've had this Ede 500 AVS2 for awhile, so I popped it on. It replaced a regular Ede 500. After starting it I'm like holy s*** what the hell is wrong with this thing. It idled rough and sounded like crap, so I turned it off. After further inspection I forgot to put the...

    Evans waterless coolant

Playing with springs in the distributor does not adjust the amount of mechanical advance. It adjusts the rate the timming comes in. Usually you would install 1 lighter spring into the distributor to get the timming or advance to come in quicker. Limiting the amount of advance requires welding or...

    Tuning For Detonation

My experience with the slant, is they don't like the same amount of timing as small blocks (12/34) If you are experiencing pinging, I believe you are using to much timming. Lowering the expectations of the thing will produce a better running motor.
