    Nicks Garage 383 build

YES!! THIS^!! You have to basically DOUBLE the CFM when switching from a properly built/tuned engine with a dialed open plenum single plane to a 2x4 tunnel ram. 340=2x750, 440=2x850, etc. We ran 2x660s on our FED rail 383 (Offy TALL tunnel ram) and I felt it needed 2x750s, we went to a 471"...

    Nicks Garage 383 build

Speaking of manifolds, did anyone else notice Nick had a short, maybe 1/2" spacer on top of a divided-plenum intake? I've never liked that transition from open to flange irregularities/shelves. On a 4-hole intake, you can run an inverted tapered 4-hole spacer with the holes DOWN to smooth the...

...numbers were. The cam is an improvement over stock, although I'da liked a 108LSA and maybe more exhaust duration split with the manifolds (224/234*?). With more static compression and some more overlap, I think they'da got better numbers. I ran a shelf 219/235* @.050" on a 110LSA cam in my...

300 HP out of a 318, is it possible with bolt ons?

...size and blend past the pinch. Mill the heads to reduce the volume back down from the deshrouding cuts. Pick a conservative camshaft, at least a 218*@.050" but probably more like 228*@.050" and at least .450" lift up to about .500". The last one I did, I used a 270S Comp Cams solid flat...

    Camshaft id please...

The MoPar PurpleShaft solids are .028/.032" pretty much across the board, I always set mine at .024/.026" HOT and had no problems. Much less noise, and I ran them with 1.6 rockers as well. Play around with it, but unless you are lacking bottom end, tighter will be better up to a point.

How strong is an a-body 8.25 and can you make it stronger?

Yes I used it to replace a 7.25" in my '71 Demon (318 car), and it held up to hundreds of runs with a 400hp 360 (mid/low 12s) and a 525hp 416 (low 11s) but I was footbraking with 3.91 gears and a Sure Grip. I haven't inspected it but it worked fine when I ladder bar'ed the car with an 8.75" and...

[WANTED] P2843177 MP solid lifters, partial set 4+

Hey everyone: Looking for an incomplete set of P2843177 solid lifters (hollow, with the pushrod seat held in by a snap ring). Maybe you broke a set for a Slant Six and have the 4 spares, or maybe just extras laying around. I need these to complete a partial set I have for a V8 application. Thanks!

    Oh dear God! 318 stroker

My first 4" stroker was a SCAT cast unit (stronger than Eagle, but this was in '99 so nobody really knew then) I got from MoPar Perf. It had to have Mallory metal with lightweight SIR Eagle rods and Diamond dished pistons, which I thought was odd. The last one I did, I used Magnum 5.9L external...

    Oh dear God! 318 stroker

I don't own the Barracuda, it's "Gary's Garage" on YouTube. I am, however, building a 318 Magnum based 390 (dished pistons, RHS heads) for my '99 Dakota R/T ext.cab. It's a heavy truck and I want more bottom end but really don't need a 408, so I used an old 5.2 block from a '92 D-150 shorty that...

    Oh dear God! 318 stroker

I'm thinking the pin overlap might be adding to the Eagle crank failures. A good many of the failures are from people with engines far beyond any cast crank usage, like really high RPM or boosted applications (nitrous/etc.). Your lightweight skinny rods will help and the low RPM ceiling. When...

    Oh dear God! 318 stroker

These guys^ did exactly what you are describing, and 20+yrs ago, "Speed-O-Motive" offered a kit to make a "350" MoPar 318. The guys in the video had to relieve the bottom of the pistons near the pin bosses to clear the counterweights, but they used replacement pistons for a super-low compression...

    Cam Selection 360

...cam are leaving a lot of torque out, but it would idle decent and have a broad band. From personal experience with street trucks and tow rigs, a 110*LSA would put you in the torque band quicker and with a higher peak. In my '86 D250 tow rig, I used the 272H-10 Energizer (still available in...

    318 Magnum vs the world

Magnum engines made a believer out of me in the early 2000s. I was a big block guy until 1999 when I built a '71 Demon with a 360LA. Had a bunch of fun with it, and I had a '68 Dart with a tired (but quick!) 400 BB and 4.30 gears. I cannibalized the Dart for parts and put a mildly modded 1994...

    8 3/4 rear

I would NOT recommend an 8.25" rear for 4spd drag or transbrake automatic cars due to shock loading and the crush sleeve and c-clip axles (27spl.) primarily.
  23. Bighead440

    8 3/4 rear

The 8.25 has it's limitations for sure, but I believe it's closer in strength to say, a Chevy 12-bolt, than people think. It's not an 8.8 Ford, or even a 9.25" Chrysler by a longshot, but I have used several, especially one, beyond expectations with success. My '71 Demon started out as a...

    340 cam in a 318

The OG Street Hemi B/RB cam had 284* duration and .471/.474" lift (split pattern) and 108*LSA. Mopar Performance reeingneered the Direct Connection original to: 280* duration with .474" lift (single pattern) with a 110*LSA in the late '80s if I remember correctly. Comp Cams' Magnum and Isky Mega...
