    10 camshaft test...

I do think that’s the overall best way to do it for most applications. Of course, the same spec grind can be ground for a huge and different application like a drag car for example

    10 camshaft test...

When DV mentions his idea of best, it’s the best over the entire curve, not best / most HP.

No ads here on FABO but on FBBO, it’s a **** show to the point I don’t bother going there anymore.

Off the shelf grind wise? Howard’s , Schneider Racer Brown are my favorites to look at. Yep! I do that, 100%!

    HVH Super sucker?

How is the flow distribution between cylinders in the intake cfm wise and if it’s only a deep porting of the runner, the plenum was never addressed and should be del with if you can. The “Rich” cylinders are the better flowing ones and the other ones need port work at the entrance under the carb.

    dual quad small blocks?

Not true, you had to spec it through Offenhauser.

    Hughes big mouth heads

I’m no wizard at the HP guessing games myself. We just get how stuff is put together and works. FWIW, do not consider a W5 as an exotic part. They are like an aluminum W2 w/rectangle ports. It has the same attachment to the block as a standard head and slightly wider intake holes which are...

Percent of lost lift due to 58 degree lifter angle?

A lot of that is also the parameters of the test engine and the cylinder heads. What Rich showed was really good IMO and probably saved a lot of guys some money. But it is not always the case. Much of it is in how the cylinder head flows and where it stops flowing more at higher and higher...

    Hughes big mouth heads

Crazy? No. It’s a bit of a stretch but if the engine size and combo are conducive with a high rpm ability of all the parts on/in it, I’d guess there would be a few people out there that could make it happen. I don’t see many motor heads achieving this alone. The thing is, the rough rule of...

    Hughes big mouth heads

The below is the reported flow numbers by Hughesengines. Be aware of the flow bench they use which can be found at there site. Not all flow benches flow the same. They should be a tool used to show before and after work is done and not matched against another type or kind of flow bench including...

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

I e run a similar camshaft and that cam is usable with a OEM converter. 3.55’s are good. It made power to 5K on my LA 318 w/stock heads

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

Oh! For what it’s worth, if my wife’s 360, I have a Comp Hyd roller cam that is 224° of duration at .050 lift. While some could it waste to install trick flows on top, I also added 1.6 rockers for a higher than .570 lift. The Barracuda has 3,55’s on 26” tires, a 904 with a custom stall...

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

The crate engine peaks at 5400 because of the stock cylinder heads. If you put them out the larger volume will increase the RPM ceiling. I do believe the small cam will be much more enjoyable for the street. Depending on how well the head supported, I don’t really see an issue with peeking at...

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

Thats the main idea. Thats what needs to be done, thats what your supposed to be doing. That part of the statement sounds like that’s a problem. Or a draw back hurting drivability or something. A good modern quality converter will not be a draw back or leave you with a miserable dread spot...

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

At the stock compression of the engine, I’d call it OK. I’d rather see another point of compression myself. It’s not the end of the world though. The 380/360 engine, much like what’s being built here, the key for performance is a properly stalled converter, gears & tire size that also work with...

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

I like and suggest clay. Play-do is a bit more pliable. The reuse of the OEM gasket for checking purposes is fine. I’ve reused head gaskets over and over. A new one is always a good bet. Cometic can get you the thickness you want if it is not commercially available. I check without gaskets...

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

Always check piston to valve clearance just to make sure that you didn’t screw up the cam installation. The actual valve lift, while a concern is more of a troublesome thing even with low lifts, because the cam is installed by mistake 2 or 4 degree off by way of a multi slot crank and/or can...
